Audio Interview – Wayne Hancock

Wayne It was one of those times when I had to reach over and pinch myself: here I was interviewing none other than Wayne “The Train” Hancock.

It went down behind The Mesa Theater in Grand Junction, CO on 7-12-09 as part of Johny Wrong’s First Annual Hootenanny (to read the review of the show click here.)

We talked about the Marines, the economy, compared and contrasted tour vans to buses, the new album Viper of Melody, Bloodshot Records, and his relationship with Hank III. He also spoke pretty candidly about the altercation between Tony Locke and Izzy Zaidman, and much more.

A couple quick notes on the interview:

–When it starts we were laughing because one of the bands playing with Wayne that night was Mad Max & The Wild Ones(who he also references in the interview), and there are two young kids in that band, including a third grader.

–Gina, who is referenced early in the interview is Gina Gallina, Wayne’s wife who does booking for him, Bob Wayne and others.

–Wayne is a bit of a mumbler, and we were outside behind the venue with all kinds of noises around (at one point you can hear Mad Max beginning to play inside), so I did go in and dicker with the audio to clean it up a bit. I also took out a couple of things that Wayne asked me to.

–I was trying to be fair with Wayne’s time, that is why I kept trying to end the interview, but he kept wanting to talk, and I would have sat on that curb talking to him all night if I could.
