Aaron Watson Takes Center Stage at the San Antonio Rodeo (Photos)
If you want to appreciate just how far independent Texas country artist Aaron Watson has come with his career, take a moment to reflect that in 2017, he was asked to play the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo—the same big stage that Willie Nelson, and even big pop country names like Rascal Flatts and Dierks Bentley played this year. Aaron Watson is no longer the Little Engine That Could, he’s a Texas country locomotive rolling with the big boys, and it helps that Watson has made the rodeo circuit his bread and butter over the years.
In a couple of weeks, Watson will also open the musical entertainment at the biggest rodeo in Texas—the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo on the same stage Luke Bryan and Florida Georgia Line will play, but on Saturday night (2-25)—the day after releasing his latest album Vaquero—it was all about Aaron taking the vaunted San Antonio Rodeo stage in the center of a packed arena to play to a crowd who could appreciate the cross-culture connection he makes on his latest album.

Trigger, for those of us living in areas lacking rodeos such as exist in Texas, am I correct in saying these rodeos are usually in domes and stadium size venues i.e. it’s packing a big house, not a small venue, right?

Yes, The San Antonio rodeo, and especially the Houston Rodeo are in big arenas. It’s the same arena they do the main rodeo stuff.

It is pretty cool to see this. People can say what the want about Watson, but he puts out solid country music that I can relate too. I first saw him in Omaha in Stinson Park with about 100 other people and he still gave it his all. I am glad to see good people like him doing well.

Ageed.. I saw him last year in this tiny club, with about the same 100 I would say.
He was full throttle.
A lot of fun.

In the 3rd pic after the article, had to do a double take. At 1st glance, the guitarist looked like the late Huey Thomasson, of Outlaws, and later, Lynyrd Skynyrd fame.
