Audio Interview with Andy Gibson

Andy GibsonOn March 3rd, I traveled up to Portland, OR to catch the Hank III show at the Roseland Theater. Before the show, I sat down with Hank III’s steel guitar player and recording guru Andy Gibson to talk about his mentor Kayton Roberts, his work recording bands like The .357 String Band and Bob Wayne and the Outlaw Carnies, and to talk about his work with Hank III and music in general.

Following is an audio segment that includes parts of our conversation, and music by Andy Gibson and some other artists that he has recorded. It’s pretty long, so if you don’t have time to listen now, come back when you can.

This is my first crack at using audio so it is a little rough. Criticism and suggestions are encouraged. And no, I’m not getting into the podcasting business, but I am planning to use audio and possibly video in the future for interviews and performances to help archive the greatness of this swell in underground country that is happening at the moment.

At some point I will also make the full unedited version of my interview with Andy available. You can also read a Q & A with Andy pulled from our interview HERE.
