The Pit & Barrel Bar, previously known as BoondoxXx, and most famous for being the location where the bar’s owner Chris Ferrell shot country artist Wayne Mills in the back of the head, has finally been demolished. Many fans and friends of Wayne Mills were hoping for the demolishing of the building to help erase the memory of the tragic events that unfolded there.

Located at 515 2nd Avenue South in Nashville, the 3000 sq. ft. standalone building housed a bar, barbecue pit, and a performance stage. In September of 2013, two months before the murder took place, the Spike TV program Bar Rescue helped to remodel and revitalize the location. The episode, which was initially pulled from the air by Spike out of respect to Wayne’s family, accidentally played in the midnight encore slot, causing an uproar among fans.

After Chris Ferrell was indicted, the Pit and Barrel closed, and eventually the business was liquidated. The building remained standing though, with the windows boarded up, and no trespassing signs posted. The location sat in front of the American Executive Center just south of downtown Nashville. According to the owners of the American Executive Center, the building was sold about a year ago.

Chris Ferrell shot and killed Wayne Mills on November 23rd, 2013, just before 5 AM after an altercation that started when Mills lit a cigarette in the Pit & Barrel. The two men were in the bar during an after hours party. As Mills turned to leave, Ferrell pulled out a .22 pistol and shot three times, with the third bullet striking Mills in the back of the head. Wayne later died of his wound at the Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville. Ferrell claimed self-defense, but was found guilty of 2nd degree murder March 6th, 2015 in a jury trial, and later was sentenced to 20 years in prison.

Chris Ferrell’s requests for a new trial have so far been denied.
