For those wondering why Chris Stapleton isn’t playing Willie Nelson’s 4th of July Picnic this year, or perhaps some other big holiday blowout concert, it’s because the flaming hot country music star has decided instead to spend it with the 40,000 service members and their families at Fort Bragg in North Carolina.

“We had planned on taking this Fourth off, but then the opportunity to go celebrate the soldiers … and it was just something we couldn’t say no to,” Chris Stapleton told People. “So we decided to go celebrate these guys and girls. I’m honored to meet them.”

Along with performing at Fort Bragg, Stapleton will also help present a million dollar check from Budweiser to Folds of Honor—a not-for-profit that provides educational services to the spouses and children of fallen and disabled military members.

“I can’t think of a more appropriate thing to do,” Stapleton says. “No one who lives in the United States of America doesn’t owe these guys a debt of gratitude. Anything we can do to honor them is a real treat to get to do.”

This is not the first instance of Chris Stapleton giving back. The son of a coal miner, Stapleton made a sizeable donation to the United Mine Workers in 2015. Stapleton also played a concert in his hometown of Paintsville, Kentucky in March, and along with Ram trucks, debuted a new outdoor stage for the school.

Chris Stapleton has been on fire ever since the 2015 CMA Awards in November. His debut album Traveller continues to be the best selling record in country music, and has sold more copies than any other record released in over two years.
