Chris Stapleton Drops New Tour Dates – Shows Selling Out Fast

Riding the momentum of two Grammy wins, Chris Stapleton has announced a slew on new concert dates, and it appears some fans hoping to see him in a smaller venue before things get really crazy will have their opportunity, that is if the show hasn’t already sold out. Along with previously-announced dates opening for Hank Williams Jr. and Luke Bryan in amphitheaters and stadiums, Stapleton has unveiled a slew of dates in theaters, smaller municipal auditoriums, and casinos.

The tour dates also include a trip to Europe and performances at the Country to Country Festival tour in March, performances at Stagecoach, Coachella, and Bonnaroo, and a co-headlining show with Jason Isbell for lucky folks in Columbia, Maryland. Many dates have already sold out.

According to HITS Daily Double, sales of Stapleton’s Grammy-winning album Traveller spiked 211% after the Grammy Awards. That puts Stapleton 9th on the list of post-Grammy risers, led by James Bay with a spike of 1,300%. Though the surge is certainly welcome by Stapleton, it is nowhere near what happened after he performed on the CMA awards in November. In the aftermath of  Stapleton’s three CMA wins and collaboration with Justin Timberlake, sales of Traveller spiked 6,400%, and the album went #1 all genre. It was the biggest post-awards show bump in recent memory.

One of the possible reasons Stapleton did not spike any more after the Grammy Awards is because he did not play one of his own songs. In an interview with Rolling Stone, Stapleton insists that it was his decision. “You reach a point on a record where we’ve played virtually everything off of it, with the exception of maybe ‘Was It 26,’ on TV. [Grammys executive producer] Ken Ehrlich gave me the option of the B.B. King tribute or a song off my record. Secretly, when we’re warming up in soundcheck, that’s the kind of stuff I want to play  the blues. So it was a real treat to get to do that on that stage.”

Playing Seth Myers and the Grammy Awards are two separate things, and I’m sure some hardcore Stapleton fans wouldn’t have minded hearing the same televised Stapleton song twice. It certainly hasn’t stopped Little Big Town from performing their Grammy-winning song “Girl Crush” over and over on network TV. We’ll see if Stapleton decides to play someone else’s song Wednesday night on Kimmel.

Meanwhile if you want to see Chris Stapleton live in anything smaller than an amphitheater, you better do it quick. Dates are selling out quick, and he won’t be playing small capacity venues for long. Anderson East opens on many of the theater dates.
