Randy Travis may still be battling back from the multiple health ailments he suffered in 2013 that left the Country Music Hall of Famer with difficulty speaking and walking without assistance, but fans will get a chance to see Randy the way he was right before his stroke when a new short film shot in 2013 called The Price is released to Netflix and DVD on June 15th.

randy-travis-the-price-2Travis plays Roy Taggert—a country music legend who is in the process of dying while trying to reconcile with his illegitimate son, Jonah Anderson. Jonah is played by singer and performer James Dupre, and Randy Travis’ real-life wife Mary plays Jonah Anderson’s mother. When she unexpectedly passes away, Jonah becomes aware of his famous father, and at first, Roy Taggert refuses to acknowledge his son before eventually trying to make amends.

A real-life tie-in to the film is James Dupre was a contestant on The Voice, and The Price is named for a singing competition Dupre’s character participates in during the movie, and eventually wins. It’s his win that compels the Randy Travis character to finally acknowledge him. Trumpett Productions is behind the film, and it was written and directed by Kim Hughes.

A trailer for the film can be seen below, and though it looks a little bit low budget, if nothing else it will be good to see Randy Travis the way he was before his stroke. The movie is making its U.S. premier in Opelousas, Louisiana this weekend, and Randy and his wife are scheduled to attend the event.
