Sturgill Simpson’s Theater Tour is Selling Out Quickly

Get ’em while the getting’s good because they’re about to be gone.

That’s not a sales pitch, that’s the simple reality of Sturgill Simpson’s upcoming tour starting on 1/29 in Knoxville that will go virtually nonstop into June, and end with a special appearance at the legendary Red Rocks amphitheater with The Avett Brothers in July. In between Simpson will be hitting many of the year’s big festivals, including Bonnaroo, Stagecoach, Coachella, The New Orleans Jazz Festival, and The Governor’s Ball in New York, but a lot of the non festival dates, especially early in the tour, have already sold out.

After going on a sold out club tour in the latter half of 2014, Sturgill’s next stint on the road sees him graduating to bigger clubs and many theaters to house the growing demand. But even with more capacity, many dates are selling out almost immediately, while other shows are being moved to bigger venues. The Sturgill show on 2/5 at The Magic Stick in Detroit was forced to move to the larger Majestic Theater on the same property, and the show in Grand Rapids the night before was also forced to move to a bigger room. The show on 2/22 in Charlottesville, Virginia moved from The Southern to the higher capacity Jefferson Theater because of high demand, meanwhile 17 other shows are completely sold out already.

UPDATE: Due to overwhelming demand, Stubbs in Austin has added a second date on 4/5. Tickets will go on sale on 1/30 at 10AM.

Original tickets for the tour were priced around $14.00 to $20.00, but have shot up dramatically on the secondary market for sold out shows, some going for over $200.00 according to StubHub. Want to get into the sold out Saturday show at 3rd & Lindsley in Nashville on February 28th? The only available tickets are going for $253.55. Tickets for the Sunday show of the two night stint are going for around $188.00. Tickets for the Lincoln Theatre in Raleigh, NC are going for $153.00 on the secondary market, and these numbers could go up as the shows get closer. Just the first round of testing out Sturgill at the theater level, and he’s already proving even bigger venues are needed to meet demand.
