Wayne Hancock Cancels Dates, Enters Rehab
The king of Juke Joint Swing Wayne “The Train” Hancock has just canceled a slew of concert dates in July and August, and is entering rehab according to his record label Bloodshot Records.
With the support of his family, friends, club owners and label, Wayne Hancock has canceled his July and August tour dates to enter a comprehensive residential rehabilitation program.
Confirmed through his manager, Hancock is currently in a short-term rehab program and following his next two Texas shows next week, and a performance at the Rockabilly Rave in the U.K. on June 16th, he will then enter an extended-term recovery facility to address his long-term fight with addiction.
We would like to extend our appreciation for your understanding, especially to those who had tickets to the cancelled shows. Wayne will do his best to return to your area in the near future.
List of canceled tour dates:
7/9 Houston, TX at Armadillo Palace — 7/20 Salt Lake City, UT at The Garage — 7/21 Ketchum, ID at Whiskey Jacques — 7/22 Virginia City, MT at Wells Fargo Coffee House — 7/23 Yellowstone, MT at West Yellowstone City Park — 7/29 Minneapolis, MN at Lee’s Liquor Lounge — 7/30 Des Moines, IA at Gas Lamp — 8/2 Columbia, MO — 8/3 Kansas City, MO at Knucklehead’s
Saving Country Music’s thoughts are with Wayne Hancock, his family, band, and friends. Like we always say no matter the drama, THE TRAIN WILL ROLL ON!

Sad that his lively hood is being affected by this but hoping that good comes out of it. I hold his family and close friends in my heart and wish nothing but peace and healing throughout this journey. God speed Hancocks.

Really good to hear. Just saw him in Virginia City, NV last week. He couldn’t sing, could barely talk or stand up. Blamed his band for his actions and came down off the stage to try and pick a fight with a guy in the front row. Seen Wayne more than a dozen times and have always been a big fan. I had never seen him like that and left after four songs, cause it was too hard to watch.
Best wishes to him and Gina. I hope he gets the help he needs.

He is truly embarrassed by that. Whether I am right or wrong for saying this.. Its how I feel at this moment…. We can all thank the asshole who gave him the pills in the first place. Yes. I VERY much understand that Wayne has to be the one to say NO.. I realize that.. But it still makes me SO mad when people put shots up on the stage, Or hand him a bag full of pills. When no one asked them to in the first place. They have no CLUE what lies in store for the DAYS afterward or the state of health he was in to begin with.. He ended up having a chemical reaction to it, and lost his mind. Again, I can not stress enough…. that I know … Wayne knows…. .He has to be the one to say No.. But it doesn’t make it any easier when fans hand out like Halloween candy. So, Please… For the love of god, if you want to impress Wayne.. give him a damn bag of cheeto’s or some star mints. Really. That being said .. I am so happy Wayne is making this choice to better himself. I know, he will come back stronger and better than ever. Thank you everyone for your support.

Absolutely. Didn’t know about that, although I assumed some idiot contributed. As someone who has been on the road with bands, seen them struggle with trying to stay away from the drugs (or the booze for that matter) and then have somebody pull them into the bathroom to do a line or slip them a handful of pills…listen up people…IT DOESN’T MAKE YOU COOL TO CONTRIBUTE TO SOMEBODIES ADDICTION! Don’t be an asshole. If you wanna screw up your life, do it. These guys are trying to make a living and support families. Best to you Gina…I hope you didn’t think I was piling on. I just wanted to express how sad I was. It really bummed me out, cause I know how hard it has been for him over the years.

Gina, I don’t blame you for feeling angry, it’s very understandable. As awful as the incident sounds I am thinking that if it was the catalyst for Wayne entering rehab, then maybe it’s a positive thing? I hope you are also being supported through this process by good friends who understand the disease and/or an organisation like Al-Anon. Thanks so much for sharing so candidly. Whilst I can’t speak for everybody, it certainly does sound like all SCM community are behind you both and you have our support. As our lovable, huggable Triggerman says “THE TRAIN WILL ROLL ON”.

Gina keep your head up and best of luck to Wayne. I have been a junkie my entire adult life untill a few years ago cold turkey even pot. Now its only pot dont know if thats good but i KNOW how hard it is to say NO. I wake up in the middle of the night and think about seeking off to score some dope every week. Fans should never ever give drugs to artists unless they ask that just plain dumb….

Man, this makes me so upset to hear. I’m happy he’s taking that huge step in the right direction and being proactive, but terribly sad that it got to this point. I’ve seen Wayne play dozens of times and never seen him act in any way which wasn’t completely charming and gentlemanly, so I know he had to have been not in his right mind to act in the way described above. From my family to yours, we are wishing you all the best and praying for a positive outcome. Just do what you gotta do, Wayne… the fans will still be here. We love ya.

It’s tough news to find out that someone who you genuinely appreciate for their gift, has been struggling. I sincerely hope and pray that nothing but good comes from this time in his life.
In His Kindness God called you to His eternal glory by means of Jesus Christ. After you have suffered a little while, He will restore, support, and strengthen you, and He will place you on a firm foundation. All power is His forever and ever. Amen.

There is a certainty: addiction ends in jails, institutions and death. And there’s a lot of misery during the journey. This courageous act by Wayne is nothing less than a life saver and he should be commended and supported for taking a step towards a brand new life. Congratulations!

I write this with actual tears in my eyes… I have known Wayne since 1995 when I met him out back of Sons of Herman Hall in Dallas. He has always been so nice and he IS the biggest influence to me for having an upright bassist in my bands, relentless touring since then and THEE reason I do 2+ hour shows every time I can. He is one of my GREAT heroes that has inspired me like no other artist. Gina is also an amazing being. I will send constant prayers and songs to you both. I love you like my own family. Stay strong!
When folks ask me how long I have had a passion for Texas and it’s culture, I say: ever since I first saw and met Wayne ‘The Train’ Hancock! Listening to his music right now…

Gina and Wayne, you’re in my thoughts

i got utter faith in Wayne. He is a strong motherfucker. He is “the Train,” but he’s only human. We all have our bouts. Sometimes we win, sometimes we lose. This shit does not define the man. His 3 + hours a night over 16 years and unprecidented amount of heart and soul is what defines him. I want wants best for him and Gina at all times. If this is whats needed now, so be it. I stand by the man

Best of luck Brother. I have struggled with addiction myself, hell what am I saying, I still do! Point is! You can beat this… what made me lose some bad habits was realizing that the crap-asses that give you the stuff don’t have to pay the price…we do…you do. I wish you all the luck and if I am ever at a show where someone is pulling this crap, I will personally assist Gina in making sure they “face the music.”

Glad to see the man admitting his faults, and doing what he has to do to get better. It takes a man … hell, maybe it takes a Train … to ask for help. Hope he gets the help he needs. See ya in Cookeville Labor Day weekend, Wayne — hopefully clean and sober.

Good luck wayne and Gina. I saw Wayne playing here in a pub last year. He probably had a bit to much of whatever he used. Sad but good to hear he is going for a better situation now. Hopefully he will be succesfull. I hope he will be able to continue with his great music (and good health) in the future.
I am a painter and recently did a painting that is called; Time for a Wayne Hancock song. ( it shows a pick up truck an a little house). It will be in my next show in honour of the train for sure.
Wayne all the best and BE BACK!
