Americana Heavyweights Coming Together for Chris Porter’s Final Record

On Wednesday, October 19th at roughly 2:00 p.m., the unthinkable happened for any touring band when the vehicle Austin musicians Chris Porter and tour mate Mitchell Vandenburg were riding in—touring under the name Porter and the Bluebonnet Rattlesnakes—-was struck from behind by a tractor trailer, pinning them underneath another truck in front of them. Both Chris Porter and Mitchell Vanderburg were killed. A third member of the band—drummer Adam Nurre—remarkably survived the crash, but was injured as well.

Well-known, and well-loved throughout the Austin music scene and beyond, the death of Chris Porter sent shockwaves throughout the independent roots music community, and now that same community is coming together to raise funds for the posthumous release of Chris Porter’s final record.

Being called “It’s Gonna Get Weird Without You,” Alejandro Escovedo, Will Johnson, John Moreland, Aaron Lee Tasjan, The Mastersons, John Calvin Abney, Shonna Tucker, Sarah Green, and Drew Carman will come together on December 11th at C-Boys Heart & Soul on South Congress in Austin, TX to benefit Chris Porter’s final project that is completed, but still needs some finishing touches before it can be released.

The event is being organized by Bonnie Whitmore. I’ve put together a line up of some of Porter’s favorite musicians/artists who are graciously giving their time and talents to making this record happen,” Bonnie says. There will also be a silent auction to help raise money.

Tickets are $30 in advance.
