Americana Music Awards Announce 2017 Performers & Broadcast Partners

The 16th Annual Americana Music Awards will transpire on Wednesday, September 13th at the Mother Church of Country Music, The Ryman Auditorium, beginning at 6:30 p.m. Central as part of the week-long AmericanaFest in Nashville, and they have just announced the performers for the presentation, and how folks who cannot be in attendance can still tune in.
NPR once again will offer a streaming video feed from the Ryman during the event via NPRmusic.org, Sirius XM’s Outlaw channel will broadcast it to subscribers, and local radio stations WRLT (100.1 FM), WSM (650 AM) and WMOT (89.5 FM) will all broadcast audio from the awards on the air and online. Also on November 18th, Austin City Limits will broadcast an Americana special with highlights from the presentation on many PBS stations. Saving Country Music will also be blogging live from The Ryman during the presentation and broadcasts.
Attendees, viewers, and listeners can look forward to Jim Lauderdale once again hosting the awards, with Buddy Miller once again conducting the Americana house band that will include Larry Campbell, Robbie Crowell, Jim Hoke, Jerry Pentecost, Chris Wood and the McCrary Sisters.
“Year in and year out, the artists make this event special,” says Jed Hilly, Executive Director of the Americana Music Association. “It’s an honor to produce this event with the best team in the biz, Michelle Aquilato, Martin Fischer (Talented Two Cats) and Terry Lickona (Austin City Limits).”

Listening to Jim Lauderdale’s soothing voice for two hours is one of the highlights of my year.

Love that guy. Seeing him at Third and Lindsley was one of the highlights of AmericanaFest last year. That’s a tasty lineup for this year.

Sometimes I wonder if his AMA spokesman “celebrity” overshadows his actual music. I’ve never much liked the term “Americana,” but his music represents the best of Americana for me. He can do it all (country, bluegrass, roots rock, blues rock, folky singer-songwriter, soul etc.) and do it all very well. And he has such a gift for melody.

There may be some truth to that. I know I’m guilty of watching him on the AMA’s every year but not really looking into his music.

This is an award show ought to be… REAL MUSIC!

Pretty pumped that I have a work conference that week in Nashville. Pretty sure my co workers care nothing about going so I ‘m going to be solo for this one. Going to be a good evening.

Does anyone else see a Drive-By Truckers reunion? Can you say “Outfit….or “Never gonna Change?”

“Decoration Day” comes to mind as well…

I’d vote for Zip City. Also, Isbell loves “Heathens.”
I think it was on the DBT Secret to a Happy Ending documentary where Isbell said the worst part about not being in the band anymore was not being able to play those DBT songs. He said something like he could always call up his former band members but you can’t call a song.
August 31, 2017 @ 8:14 am
Yeah, I’d put money on “Heathens” if it actually happens.

God bless NPR for streaming the event.

That lineup looks like my record collection.

The nominations look the same as last year’s. I had to make sure I didn’t click on an old article.

Trigger, I just got approved for a media pass, would love to shake your hand if you’re there too!

Really looking forward to this year.
