Ashley McBryde’s “One Night Standards” Goes Gold

Ashley McBryde has a knack for writing and performing songs that defy the odds and do surprisingly well in spite of the mainstream radio world dragging their feet, or outright getting in the way. Despite receiving credit for being her breakout single, “A Little Dive Bar in Dahlonega” only reached #30 on country radio. Her stunning signature song “Girl Goin’ Nowhere” that had everyone crying like they were cutting onions when she performed on the Grand Ole Opry stalled at #40.

Regardless, people are still listening, and the same goes for her current single “One Night Standards” that despite the pretty somber tone for a summer single, continues to sizzle. Along with currently sitting at #14 on country radio and finding a best of #13 so far, the RIAA has just certified the single Gold. Hopefully this will help springboard her already best-charting single so far into the Top 10, or farther.

“It’s really special to have this song reach an audience this size,” says McBryde. “I grew up listening to albums in addition to flipping through the country radio dial, so some of the biggest songs that influenced my career weren’t the ones you heard on the radio. But that discovery – when the deejay said ‘and that was Mary Chapin Carpenter,’ or ‘that was Terri Clark,’ man, it would send me down a rabbit hole. If you can walk that line, introduce millions of new fans to your music and at the same time give them something to go deeper with on your records, then I think you’re right where you need to be. And right now, I’m very thankful to be here.”

Even without a Top 10 radio single, Ashley McBryde was awarded the 2019 ACM New Female Vocalist of the Year, and has been nominated for three separate Grammy Awards. So success has found her, even if radio is lagging behind. But there is renewed hope for artists like Ashley. Maddie & Tae recently etched a #1 with their song “Die From A Broken Heart,” and other singles from women have been doing well in 2020. Don’t be surprised if “One Night Standards” still has some upside potential on radio before all is said and done.

Ashley McBryde released her latest record Never Will in April, and it included a series of intertwined videos, including the one for “One Night Standards” that now has more than 11 million views.
