Billy Joe Shaver Funeral Arrangements Announced

UPDATE: 10:40 a.m. CST: According to the funeral home, they have chosen not to live stream Billy Joe Shavers memorial service on Wednesday as previously announced.

Outlaw country legend Billy Joe Shaver died on Wednesday, October 28th after suffering a massive stroke on the morning of October 27th while in a rehabilitation facility. He was 81 years old.

A visitation will be held for Billy Joe Shaver from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 3rd at the Waco Memorial Mausoleum Chapel at 6623 South Interstate 35, Waco, TX 76706. The visitation is open to the public.

Then on Wednesday, November 4th, there will be graveside visitation from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the same Waco Memorial Park location. This is also open to the public. A private ceremony will also be held at the cemetery at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday for invited guests.

Billy Joe Shaver will be buried near his wife Brenda, and his son Eddy, who was also a musician, and passed away in 2000. Billy Joe is survived by his sister, Patricia, and multiple nieces and nephews. The family has requested memorials to be made in Billy Joe’s name to the Shriner’s Hospital for Children or to St. Judes Children Research Hospital. 

Born in Corsicana, TX, Billy Joe Shaver spent much of his youth and adult life in Waco. His mother ran a Waco honky tonk called Green Gables where a young Billy Joe spent much of his time. One of his many nicknames was the “Wacko From Waco,” which was memorialized in a 2011 song featuring Willie Nelson.
