Billy Strings, Sarah Jarosz, Jade Bird Announced for ACL Tapings

After blowing minds all across the country and world, becoming one of the big winners of the last year with his frequent live stream performances, and earning a Grammy for Best Bluegrass album a few months ago, Billy Strings is being tapped to make his debut on Austin City Limits for the upcoming season. The show will be taped on July 7th. Billy Strings is one of multiple strong picks just announced by ACL as we start to slowly emerge from the pandemic and a limited taping schedule.

Billy Strings has proven his prowess not just on the stage, but in front of the camera, becoming one of the highest-drawing streaming acts during the shutdown, while raising over $100,000 for various charities. So who better to bestow with the ACL opportunity? The flat-picking jamgrass-inspired virtuoso feels like he’s the next big music star ready to emerge from the roots music world.

Also taping an ACL appearance soon is Wimberley, TX-native Sarah Jarosz. A Grammy winner herself, including in 2021 for Best Americana Album for World on the Ground, she has appeared on the ACL stage twice before in 2010 and 2014, and will make her third appearance on June 2nd. Jarosz also just released a new album called Blue Heron Suite, inspired by family trips she would take to Port Aransas in Texas while growing up.

Also scheduled to appear is Jade Bird, who is a British native, but recently has been making her home in Austin. Along with appearing recently on a song with Brent Cobb, Jade Bird has been recording recently with Dave Cobb, and is expected to announce the release of a new album soon. She will tape her episode on June 14th.

And rounding out the recent announcements from Austin City Limits is indie-pop performer Sloan Strumble from Aledo, TX, who records under the name Dayglow, and got his start recording music in his dorm room at the University of Texas, giving three of the four announced performers for upcoming tapings legitimate Austin ties. Dayglow will tape his performance on May 25th.

Due to continued COVID-19 concerns, audiences for the tapings will continue to be limited, and will not be conducted lottery style as in the past, but seeded by supporters and sponsors of the show until further notice. Sometimes tapings are live streamed, and sometimes they’re not, so keep your eyes peeled for announcements if the tapings will stream.
