Boxer / Actor Victor Ortiz Arrested for Felony Assault at Kenny Chesney Concert
On Saturday, July 25th, Kenny Chesney’s Big Revival Tour and Jason Aldean’s Burn It Down Tour merged at the historic Rose Bowl in Pasadena, CA for one epic show. As a performer who has played numerous stadiums in his career, Kenny said finally getting the opportunity to play the Rose Bowl was a dream come true. Many Hollywood stars were in attendance, including Reese Witherspoon, Ashton Kutcher, Vince Vaughn, and Mila Kunis. However for one attendee, the experience became a nightmare when he found himself being brutally assaulted by former boxer, Dancing with the Stars contestant, and now actor Victor Ortiz.
“Officers responded to a disturbance inside the Rose Bowl. The disturbance involved Mr. Ortiz, and his brother, and the victim,” explains Pasadena Police lieutenant Mark Goodman. “They were engaged in some type of argument. During the argument, the victim actually threw a punch at Ortiz and his brother. Ortiz’s brother responded by punching the victim, knocking him to the ground. And then Victor Ortiz allegedly kicked the victim in the head. The victim was rendered unconscious during the incident, and was transported to a local facility for medical treatment. Both Mr. Ortiz and his brother were arrest for assault with a deadly weapon. The deadly weapon was the shod foot.”
Both Ortiz and his brother were booked into jail, and later released on $30,000 bond. Aside from the assault, lieutenant Mark Goodman says the concert drew a fairly well behaved crowd. “We arrested 17 people total over the course of the evening both inside the Rose Bowl and outside the Rose Bowl. Most of those arrests were related to public intoxication and ticket scalping.”
The high-profile assault comes as violent incidents and startling statistics from mainstream country concerts continue to make headlines during the summer touring season. Last weekend, over 376 individuals were arrested in connection with Ohio’s Jamboree in the Hills festival. On June 27th, a man was beaten to death just outside a Kenny Chesney concert, and the killer is still at large. Another Kenny Chesney concert at a legendary football stadium—Green Bay’s Lambeau Field—resulted in a significantly higher number of police incidents compared to other events at the venue.
Victor Ortiz has not responded publicly to the charges.

Hey, only 17 people got arrested at a Rose Bowl concert? I feel like more than that get taken in during UCLA home games.

That is what the Pasadena Police Department is saying. I’m no lawyer, but maybe they felt that what happened afterwards was excessive. Kicking someone in the head when they’re laying on the ground potentially unconscious may have been where the Ortiz brothers crossed the line. Also, I haven’t seen this information in any of the other reports on the incident, or really any information directly from police.

Trigger, you guys should just stop reporting on Chesney, Bryan and all of the other “bros”
They make a great genre look like a bunch of testosterone fueled frat boys.

I wish if I stopped reporting on them they would go away. Unfortunately, it may just lead to more malfeasance since there’s few others willing to offer a voice of dissent. But focusing on the positive should always be a priority.
