Brent Cobb Announces Intimate Acoustic Tour to Open 2020
Grammy-nominated country music songwriter and performer Brent Cobb will be touring extensively once again in 2020, and he’ll start by stripping it all down and performing his much-beloved songs in seated, intimate venues this winter with just himself and an accompanist in a tour being called, “A Night of Fine Acoustic Country Music with Brent Cobb.” Though folks love to flock to his shows for his funky, soulful, Southern Georgia brand of country, those who know Brent Cobb know he doesn’t need a full band to dazzle.
A pure songwriter well before he was known nationwide as a performer, Brent Cobb moved to Nashville in 2008 and started writing for Carnival Music Publishing where he landed cuts with folks like Miranda Lambert, Kellie Picker, Kenny Chesney, and David Nail. Though he released some of his own music independently and toured extensively, it wasn’t until the release of his 2016 debut Shine On Rainy Day (the title track later recorded by Lee Ann Womack) and extensive touring opening for Chris Stapleton that Brent Cobb became a big name in independent country and Americana.
Cobb’s acoustic-only shows will feature Maddie Medley, and they will lead into full band shows with his band known simply as “And Them” in the spring with Erin Rae opening. Only a few spring shows have been announced so far, but expect Cobb’s tour schedule to fill up more as we head into 2020. And as you wait for a new album from Cobb to follow up his 2018 release Providence Canyon, you can check out his recent release with previous touring partner Jade Bird called “Feet Off The Ground.”

I’m just gonna say it – being Dave Cobb’s cousin is the only reason anyone knows about him or gets the recognition, opportunities and accolades he receives. Live or on record it’s the same snoozefest. Doesn’t sound like he has much to say. Average in all measures aside from who his family is.

I actually think Dave Cobb is way overrated, but think Brent’s work is pretty damn good.

I respectfully disagree. Brent Cobb was writing songs getting cut by major label artists at Carnival Music while Dave Cobb was a virtual unknown working on obscure records from the Oak Ridge Boys and Shooter Jennings. It wasn’t until Sturgill’s “Metamodern Sounds” and Jason Isbell’s “Southestern” (which was supposed to be produced by Ryan Adams) blew up before people even started recognizing Dave Cobb’s name. Their two careers came about almost simultaneously, and in two different fields. Did Dave Cobb’s success lend to Brent getting signed as a performer? Yeah, it probably did. But that doesn’t mean Brent didn’t deserve it.

Based on interviews I’ve read I’m not sure they even realized they were related until they worked together.

I remember it that way too. I don’t recall the precise timeline, but I think Brent was in Nashville trying to make it as a writer while Dave was out in LA trying to make it as a producer (of rock records, not country). Dave didn’t make it to Nashville ’til later.
The two were raised in different parts of Georgia and met for the first time as adults, at a family reunion. Brent’s since moved back to his hometown in Georgia, while Dave stayed in Nashville. They’re both talented in their own right. Brent’s a great writer, but not necessarily a powerful performer. He’s got a mellow demeanor, and a relatively thin voice – but I still love him. Seen him live a couple times now and was impressed both times. Love his Georgia drawl.

I don’t know it just all just seems a little Illuminati pleasure slave ritual or secret Masonic bloodline conspiracy like to me y’know? Like the Clinton’s or Bush’s etc. I’ve been to Nashville. You think it’s just by chance that the Masonic Lodge on top of the hill overlooking Lower Broadway is there and bigger than all the churches on the same row? Anyone else know what I’m talking about?

Because I thought of him as just Dave Cobb’s cousin, I didn’t rush to pick up his first album. But it was Trigger’s review of Cobb’s second album Providence Canyon that made me take a chance on him. And I love that album. Picked up the first one too and really like that one, too. And I have similar stories with JTE and Lilly Hiatt.

When I saw him in Denver a few weeks back, it was just Cobb and his guitarist, so it seems like a continuation of that tour, which was awesome.

For everyone’s sake, I don’t do theater seating / acoustic shows 😞 . I’ll catch him on the next loud, GA tour.

I love Brent Cobb, and think he has potential as the next big thing. He’s a great songwriter, he wrote a bunch of the Steel Woods’ songs among others
