Brent Cobb to Reissue Debut Album “No Place Left to Leave”
Brent Cobb will be reissuing his often-overlooked and hard-to-find debut album No Place Left to Leave on February 7th via CD, vinyl, and on all digital platforms. Released when Cobb was an aspiring songwriter, and before he officially moved to Nashville and started writing for Carnival Music Publishing where he landed cuts with folks like Miranda Lambert, Kellie Picker, and Kenny Chesney, it finds Brent in his most nascent state, but already sharing songs that would withstand the test of time and be recorded by others.
“I released this record in 2006 on iTunes and well, loads has happened since then,” Brent Cobb says about the record. “I’ve always loved that album and I don’t think a lot of people have heard it. It’s very eclectic, but the main thing that goes through my mind when I listen to it now is that it started things off for me. Which is why I wanted to re-release it on all streaming platforms.”
No Place Left to Leave was produced by Brent Cobb’s cousin Dave Cobb. All ten tracks were written by Brent, and the album includes numerous tracks later recorded by other artists, including “Hold Me Closely,” which the Oak Ridge Boys cut on their Dave Cobb-produced 2009 album The Boys Are Back, and Whiskey Myers recorded “Bar, Guitar, and a Honky Tonk Crowd” on their 2011 album Firewater.
Though Brent Cobb appears to still be signed to Low Country Sound/Elektra Records, this reissue is coming through his own label, Ol’ Buddy Records. It also includes songs many Brent Cobb fans have seen him play live, including the opening number “Richland.”
It was the release of Cobb’s 2016 debut Shine On Rainy Day (the title track later recorded by Lee Ann Womack) and extensive touring opening for Chris Stapleton where Brent Cobb became a big name in independent country and Americana, and received a Grammy nomination for Best Americana Album. His 2018 album Providence Canyon was also well-received.
Along with the reissue, Brent Cobb will be heading out on an acoustic tour in February and March, playing his songs in seated, intimate venues with only one accompanist before launching into full band shows in April.
The reissue of No Place Left to Leave can now be pre-ordered.

He also mentioned something about having finished an album and hopefully having it released in November during a Steamboat set

Brent Cobb is one of the most overlooked country singers today. He’s Jinks and Childers caliber in my book. Also interesting, Miranda Lambert recently said “Shine on Rainy Day” was her favorite album of the decade.

Really anxious to hear this. Jumped on bandwagon after Shine On….and was thoroughly impressed. Really loved the JJ Cale influence on his last record.

I have a feeling I won’t like this eclectic collection, but I’ll listen. I really didn’t care for Shine On. But, Providence Canyon … that was filthy. No Place Left to Leave might be an artist struggling to find his voice, but I’ll listen.

I am looking forward to this. I really like Shine On Rainy Day and Providence Canyon so want to hear his earlier work and I’m interested in what the original Bar, Guitar and a Honky Tonk Crowd sounds like. Brent Cobb seems like someoneone who really appreciates that people want to listen to his music, so it is nice that he is making this early release available again!

Leroy Powell who produced Firewire played on No Place Left To Leave. I always liked Cobb’s version better. MYbe because I heard it first. Still my favorite album from Brent.

Not sure if Dave Cobb has remastered the album or not, but the original release stated it was produced by Shooter Jennings. The backing band is Shooters then backing band the 357s.
It was a promo from Shooter’s website that turned me on to the album when it was released.

I don’t know the full story here, but from what I understand, Dave Cobb had a part in getting this ready for re-release. It comes with an updated cover as well compared to the original. Yes, I believe Shooter had a big part in the first incarnation, including playing on the record, and Leroy Powell of the .357’s ended up producing Brent’s second record. And of course, Dave Cobb produced some of Shooter’s early records, so all these dues were definitely hanging out in studios together at the time.

Considering the connections I wouldn’t be surprised if Dave Cobb had been involved. Leroy Powell has played on a lot of great albums including this one. His first few albums are pretty good as well, but after that he has been hit and miss.

I love Brent Cobb. Providence Canyon was my favorite album last year, along with the Moonpies’ Steak Night. I want this dude to get the respect he deserves. He’s not the most powerful vocalist or performer, but he’s got the songwriting chops and his vibe is great.
His single “Feet of the Ground” with Jade Bird, from last year, still gives me chills. A stunning recording, to my ears. Talk about powerful vocals, Jade Bird is huge. I’d absolutely love for them to do a duet album and tour that.

From someone who has had a copy of this album since about a year before it was released, and has literally work it out over 15 years, y’all are in for a treat. Every track from first to last is great.
