Charley Crockett Announces New Album “Music City USA”

Charley Crockett might be a worthy candidate for the most interesting man in country music. Not only is the dude wildly talented and entertaining, while he tours constantly and finds the time to make cinematic quality videos, he also keeps up a hare’s pace in the studio.
Earlier this year he released the 3rd installment in his “Lil’ G.L.” series paying homage to the past greats by recording ten songs in tribute to legendary Texas troubadour James “Slim” Hand. And even with releasing two records in 2020 as well—including one of 13 new original songs in Welcome To Hard Times—you knew Crockett wasn’t done with releasing new music in 2021.
Announced today, Charley Crockett will release his latest album called Music City USA on September 17th via his own Son of Davy record label, distributed by Thirty Tigers. Though it might be titled after the nickname of Nashville, the album was recorded at Soil of the South Productions in Valdosta, GA and produced by Mark Neill, who also produced 2020’s Welcome to Hard Times.

The new album includes a whopping sixteen tracks, including a cover of the iconic country song “Skip A Rope.” Ahead of the new album Charley has released the song and video for “I Need Your Love” (see below).
“I like to think of my sound as ‘Gulf & Western’, and this number here is all gulf coast music,” says Crockett. “Something you’d hear out of southeast Texas recording studios or southern Louisiana. I’d been foolin’ around with this song for a while, and when we went to record it, we decided at the last minute to double the length of the chorus. I felt right then that we had something. I’d wanted to bring the horns back for a couple tunes on this album. Soul and Country R&B from the deep south is a whole lot of who I am. I hope it shows though on ‘I Need Your Love’.”
Charley Crockett is having a banner year already. Along with receiving wide praise for his 10 For Slim James Hand tribute, Crockett is making his Austin City Limits debut taping on July 28th. He’s also currently being featured right beside fellow south Texas native Freddy Fender at the Country Music Hall of Fame as part of their American Currents exhibit.
Music City USA is now available for pre-order.

Love Charley Crockett’s music and I’m always so impressed with the sheer quantity he puts out. No one cranks out music like this guy. And of course, it’s all great.

Thanks for that. Charley Crockett is the best thing currently happening in music. Damned prolific and it’s all quality. Agree about his videos. I only wish he’d come to FL, we so want to see him. I’m worried that by the time we retire to the PNW in June, which thankfully gets all the shows, he’ll be playing arenas.

Forgot to add that I love his covers and am excited to hear ‘Skip a rope’, a song I loved as a youngster.

Dude puts out music like he is a singer from the 1960s.
I like it.

Love Charley!
Cool video, as usual.
And a Red phone this time. Ratcheting it up a notch – Ooo la la
Charley, and Sierra Ferrell hands down 2 of my fav artists.
Never would have heard of them if not for Coroneos.
Sierra absolutely killed it with her latest video, The Sea. (think that is the name of it)

Had the pleasure to have Charley stop by our studios early last year, and one of the songs he played for us was “Round This World.” Keep your ears perked up for that one when it drops either as a single or with the album. Peppy banjo number (if he keeps similar arrangement on the recording).

Just saw him reopen the Belly Up in Solana Beach. The venue’s first show since COVID. Incredible performance. Can’t wait for the new album and glad live music is back!

He’s coming up the coast for a show tonight. And Moonpies next month. Nice to have something to brag about again!

Charley is just a musical chameleon. Dabs in to multiple styles and it always feels authentic. One of the best artists going today.

Saw Charly and the incredible Blue Drifters play a small venue on July 3rd. They put on one hell of show. I’m afraid Trig is right that it won’t be long before Charly Crockett is headlining bigger arenas and rightfully so. The dude is the real deal.

Been hooked since I first heard Jamestown Ferry. Hoping his tour expands to my state, Id give my first born to see him live.
On a side note Lindi Ortega released a rough recording of something she dis for a friends business. Maybe shes getting the itch to write some new songs.

I just got tickets for 9/24 at GA Theatre in Athens! I checked his schedule at breakfast and he added 2 dates in SC and 3 in GA. All in September. Get your tickets if you live there and thought you wouldn’t see him!

Man, this guy is the coolest dude in country music. (Of course that’s not necessarily what a country artist is going for, but still he’s got the whole rat pack kind of cool going…)

Had the pleasure of seeing him last night at Delfino Farms in Camino, CA (Apple Hill for those familiar). He was amazing! His albums have always been consistently good to great, but he really shines in a live forum. Definitely glad I didn’t miss the opportunity. Here’s to hoping he releases a live album at some point that truly captures what he puts into his performances. The Blue Drifters are one heck of a backing band, too.
