Cody Jinks Show in Nacogdoches Canceled Due to Threat
Saturday night, October 26th was supposed to see Cody Jinks celebrating his latest #1 record After The Fire at the Nacogdoches County Expo Center in the oldest town in Texas, with Texas country band Flatland Cavalry opening the show. However a serious threat received by the venue targeting the event was alarming enough for Cody Jinks and local officials to decide to cancel the show. The Nacogdoches County Sheriff’s Office says they were notified of the threat Saturday morning, and that it was made over the phone via an online app. Officials have yet to confirm the specific nature of the threat.
“It is with much regret and aggravation that we have to cancel the show in Nacogdoches, Texas tonight,” Cody Jinks said in a statement. “We are here, set up, and ready, but we have been notified that there has been a threat of violence issued for tonight’s show. The local officials along with federal officials are trying to track down the person who issued the threat, but haven’t just yet. So, in good conscience, my team and I have decided to postpone the show this evening. The safety for our fans, friends, and staff is first and foremost. I personally had family make long drives and paid for hotels so I understand any aggravation and frustration. We will make it up to you and keep you updated when we are able to reschedule the show.”
The Nacogdoches Country Sheriff’s Office says that the FBI, Texas Rangers, and the Texas Department of Public Safety are involved in determining who made the threat and why. If anyone has any information about the threat, they’re asked to contact the Sheriff’s Office at (936) 560-7777. Early Saturday evening, Nacogdoches Country Sheriff Jason Bridges made the following statement:
The Cody Jinks concert that was scheduled for tonight at the Nacogdoches County Exposition Center has been canceled. We’re sorry that we’ve had to cancel this event. This morning, shortly after 10:00 a.m., the officials there at the County Expo Center received a threat from an individual. Law enforcement was notified. We have been working this investigation. A threat was made upon doing violence during the concert. The threat was made over the phone, and since this morning we’ve been trying to establish who made that phone call.
With all the technology and everything that’s out there, obviously it takes some time to track those phone calls down. Apparently this was made through an online app. So we’ve been tracking that information. But I can assure that we’re going to do everything we can to identify who made this phone call, and bring them to justice. We have informed the promoters of the Cody Jinks concert of this threat, and they have decided for the best interest of the public and the safety of the public to cancel the event.
I know there were a lot of people planning on attending the event, and I truly understand that you’re probably disappointed. We certainly are sorry to have to cancel the event. But ultimately, the safety of our citizens is the top priority and concern for everybody, and we hope you keep that in mind. We canceled the event for your safety.
Cody Jinks played a show Friday evening (10-25) at The Backyard in Fredericksburg, TX. His next show is scheduled at the Albany Events Center in Albany, GA on November 7th. Jinks just released his 2nd album in successive weeks called The Wanting on October 18th, which just like After The Fire released on October 11th, is aiming to go #1 in country in pure album sales, and debut near the top of the charts.
More information on the threat if and when it becomes available.

It was probably Ward calling to say that Cody was the bomb, and things just got misconstrued. Classic 80’s sitcom stuff

The crazy Fu**er will probably just find another place with a crowd to do his COWARD shooting spree.

We went and had just left a restaurant heading to the concert when I got the notification on Facebook. I wish people would get a freaking life and stop doing this shit! All it does is cause fear and cost people a lot of $$$. I’m glad Cody and his team made the decision to reschedule the concert.

Whoever called listens to Kane Brown.

Nope, whoever called is a sick disgusting freak, sorta like the one in Vegas that shot up Jason Aldean show. Those sick demonic freaks do not listen to any wholesome, good country music, which Kane is.

Maybe it was someone calling to ask why the production on both his new albums was so bad and why the snare drum annoyingly sounds like shooting a .22 in a big empty room…..

I have no clue about how they produce or put out an album, but I’m not hearing what some of you hear. It sounds “live” to me. Y’all have a problem with that?
Carla

I do not hear what you do. Are you a professional musician? I’m only asking because I don’t hear what you do. I’ve seen so many comments about the production of these albums, but I don’t/can’t hear what you all do.

Personally, I try to duplicate the tone of a .17 Mach 2 when I tune my snare.

People that were there for his concert played Kane Brown & Luke Bryan on the damn Jukebox, or whatever you all call it nowadays. Jesus! There is no hope for this genre.

Not sure what makes a threat “serious.”
Anybody from anywhere can call in a threat through an app to bomb the place or shoot the place up.
I guess they shut it down out of caution.

This is the problem: If you know of the threat, go forward with the concert, and something happens, that blood is on your hands, not to speak of the legal ramifications. Same goes for the local authorities. Just a really terrible situation to be put in.

That’s true and it’s hard to blame them, but in a way it also encourages the pranksters. There’s a reason “don’t negotiate with terrorists” is a thing.

Sucks they let the crazy lunatic scare them bad enough to cancel show. I was once at Rolling Stone’s show in Charlottesville, VA and there was a bomb threat called in during show. The Stones simply left the stage for 45 minutes, but returned and Mick was just bit fazzled and said, everything’s alright. And he got back to rocking.

If I was demented enough to really bomb or shoot up some place, I sure as hell would NOT call in to warn them. Sucks that they always have to take these threats seriously. If I had received the threat warning, I would just laugh and ask them to prove it. 99.99% of the time they find nothing. Yeah I know, not the PC thing to say these days.

Since the individual made their intentions known via the threat, it’s hard to imagine that they legitimately intended to carry out an act of violence and more likely had some grievance with Jinks or someone else involved in the production, or possibly even someone in attendance and made the threat as a disruption.

However, as we’re reminded by the new movie coming out about Richard Jewell and the Olympic Park Bombing in Atlanta, sometimes bomb threats are real.

It is truly unfortunate when these things happen but I believe everyone involved made the right call. There was a shooting in Greenville, Texas at an off campus party for students of The University of Texas at Commerce Texas Saturday night with 2 killed and 14 injured. Sadly brining home the seriousness with which these types of threats must be taken.

My wife’s family is from Nac. We went there about this time last year, and I couldn’t believe we were in small town East Texas. A bunch of emo kids walking around downtown, and an obvious tranny working at the Starbucks. Must have something to do with SFA Univeversity.

Believe it or not, transgendered people exist in even smaller ETX towns than Nacogdoches, emo kids too for that matter. They might be the majority, but rednecks aren’t the only folks living in east Texas.

I have not listened to radio country music in many years, so many that when I do I learn the music I like is now the oldies.
I believe the concert entertainment made the wisest decision by not performing. Why risk the threat being real. No life is hurt by not performing.
Mickey Gilly, George Jones, George Strait, The Judd’s, Hank Jr., Alabama, Restless Heart, Reba, Keith Whitley…those were the artist of my day. Gees, I am much older now.

The “not negotiating with terrorists” mentality is ridiculous when there are mass shootings on what seems like more days than not. 100% agree with Trigger on this one – better to cancel and re-schedule a show (inconvenient, yes…BUT DID YOU DIE?) then end up with a couple dozen dead or injured. I hope the authorities are able to find this jackass and at least make him/her face some consequences.

Yes, and two people were killed and a dozen more injured that same night right up the road in Greenville, TX and the shooter is still on the loose. It sucks this is reality, but better safe than sorry.

It is horrible that someone would even think about doing something like this. There is no reason to threaten a musical artist and their fans. Music exists predominantly as entertainment and there is never an excuse as to why one would threaten to attack a musical event. I am glad that nobody was hurt and it was probably a good thing for Cody call the concert off rather than risking the potentiality of something terrible happening. I hope that the authorities find the person responsible and make it clear that threatening people who just want to have a nice time is completely wrong and will never be tolerated.
