Colter Wall Adds to 2019 Tour Dates, Including w/ The Wood Brothers
Throwback country and folk singer Colter Wall is currently traversing the European continent bringing his one-in-a-million voice and roots revivalist music to the Old World, and then he will be returning to North America come April to perform the music from his latest album Songs of the Plains to appreciative audiences.
Along with dates throughout the eastern United States, the South, Midwest, and interior West, Colter Wall has also just announced he will be embarking on a co-headlining tour with The Wood Brothers come late summer and early fall, starting on the West Coast. Only three dates have been made available so far, but more are promised to be on the way soon. This rounds out a full slate of shows for the Canadian native in 2019, including a stop in Ottawa in July. The new dates with The Wood Brothers will go on sale Friday, March 22nd at 10 a.m. local.
Adding the the “western” to “country” isn’t deprecated language when it comes to Colter Wall and his haunting voice that awakens the moan of the wind across the open Canadian plains, and the howl of the lone wolf burdened by lonesomeness and hunger. 2018’s Songs of the Plains was named a Saving Country Music Most Essential Album.

The Morgantown show is SOLD OUT.
Hopefully, 123 Pleasant Street learned from last year’s sold out Tyler Childers show which was the most miserable experience.

What’s going on with Morgantown these days? Seems all the hillbillies have been replaced by hipsters.

I don’t know about that. I’m heading down there tonight for Whitey Morgan. I’ll let you know if I see any.
I got Mike & the Moonpies Monday in Pittsburgh.

Yeah, we need to tell the city of Morgantown they need to use a fogger spray for those danged pesky hipsters. There kinda what you might call an invasive species. Pretty soon Morgantown is gonna be run amok with coffee houses and craft beer joints!

Back in the 80’s, maybe into the 90’s, Morgantown was basically lawless. It was like an old west town an hour from Pittsburgh. You could walk up and down the streets with a beer or a bottle of Jack, and, if you were over 4 feet tall, any bar would serve you. The college kids used to throw their couches out the window into the street and set them on fire. The cops didn’t care. In fact, I think they enjoyed it. There were basically no zoning or building codes, and the whole town was one giant fire trap. If you knew someone with a boat, Cheat Lake was right there. If it was above 60 degrees, there would be kids flying all over the lake and camping wherever the hell they wanted, throwing enormous parties in the woods. Unless someone died, the cops weren’t getting involved. Anything went. Now, its become a big tech and medical research hub. A whole bunch of giant companies have moved in and the whole character of the town has changed. Its really just an outpost of DC now.

In other words, condogentrified to fuck and back, with all of what made said district appealing gone to suit hipsters.

Yep. Fucked over hard. I live south of Pittsburgh, between Morgantown and Pittsburgh. Pittsburgh is like a hipster paradise, now. Driverless cars whizzing all around, little vegans and vegettes zipping by on their bicycles, a big progressive queen for a mayor, beard oil shoppes and tappas joints on every corner. A zillion new apartments for all the little dweebs and their dogs, because they’ll never grow up and get married.

I went to Pitt from 1996-2000. Every weekend we’d head down to Morgantown to party because they never did the math. As long as you showed a license (or ID), you were admitted. Plus, the bars are open till 3 am. It was a lot wilder then, but still a good time.
If it’s all the same, I prefer seeing a show in Morgantown because their venues are curfewless and bars are open later. I live closer to Pittsburgh, but traffic and parking takes just as long as the drive to Morgantown now that they built PA Turnpike 43 (I go 80 the whole way!).

Just call them faggots or something politically incorrect. They’ll realize they’re not in a safe zone and want to escape bigotry.
Then again they might protest you and not leave you alone.

“Then again they might protest you and not leave you alone.”
Kind of like people do on Twitter to me when they read comments like this and make me answer for them, not you? Or when you complain about your comments getting deleted because the only time you leave a comment is when you see an opening to say something shitty?
Whenever you walk into a venue, profess your fandom for a certain artist, or even leave a comment in a comments section, you’re often representing something bigger than yourself. You’re representing a community.

I didn’t see any hipsters…. hardly saw anyone at all. Maybe 300 for Whitey; they had a portion of the bar closed off. Went out afterwards, bars were dead. It was unseasonably cold out though.
Whitey was ok. I guess the way Trig covers him and the way we regard him, I made him out to be bigger than he comes off in concert…. he acts likes he’s still playing dive bars in Flint, MI. But, I guess if you build you career on covers, it’s hard to get out of that shadow. I got to hear “What Am I Supposed to Do” and got accused of being a fanboy (which I’m not, only really taking him serious the last two albums). Overall, if I could do it again, we’d have went to see Whiskey Myers in Pittsburgh instead.

Good for Colter. I’ll be glad when terms like “throwback” aren’t needed. Maybe they aren’t needed at all.

I just wish his singing voice was more authentic.
My husband King has this concern as well.

I trust you HAVE talked to him and heard his speaking voice to make this kind of comment? I have, and It is just as deep and gravelly as his singing voice.
Looking very much forward to seeing him live for the first time tonight in Munich. Sold out, like most of his German shows. Europe likes Colter.

Alright don’t tell King, but I actually love him. I also love Sturgill, whom he hates. But again, don’t tell King or he’ll be furious with me.
