Colter Wall Joins Summer Dean for “You’re Lucky She’s Lonely”

Summer Dean may be someone who’s only released a single EP at this point. But down in Texas, she’s a name many have known and revered for years. Already an Ameripolitan Award winner in 2019, and sharing bills with acts such as Mike and the Moonpies, Marty Stuart, and Asleep at the Wheel, she’s ready after a decade-plus of the regular life to take the plunge into music full time with her debut album Bad Romantic out August 27th.

Helping to introduce Summer Dean to the world outside of the traditional country circles in Texas is Colter Wall, who has featured Summer as an opener for him before, and now does something that he’s never done before—both co-writing and dueting on a song with another artist. Called “You’re Lucky She’s Lonely” (listen below), it’s the first taste of Summer Dean’s new album.

“When I released my first EP, I was feeling a little sorry for myself,” Summer says about 2016’s Unladylike. “But now, it’s more of a pride thing. This is who I am, and I like it.”

From the Fort Worth area where her grandfather was a rancher and father worked in land conservation, Summer Dean’s album was recorded at the notable analog recording studio Niles City Sound in Cowtown, and also features Whitney Rose and Bonnie Montgomery singing harmonies on tracks, and Robert Ellis on piano. Brennen Leigh and Simon Flory also show up in the song credits.

“I taught elementary school for 10 years,” she says. “That’s what small-town Texas girls do. We teach school, work at the bank, or at the courthouse. Then we get married and have babies and a few dogs and die happy, buried next to our husbands. But here I am, age 40, quitting my stable job, cashing in the wedding money my momma put aside for me, and making this album.”

“You’re Lucky She’s Lonesome” will be available everywhere on 5/14.
