Canadian country and Western artist Colter Wall was one of the fortunate ones to be selected to perform for the new season of the long-running and highly-revered PBS music show Austin City Limits for their 45th season. And if you want to catch the taping, you better be on your toes because it’s coming up this Friday, August 30th. For those in or near Austin the ticket giveaway is already ongoing. The Colter Wall taping will be broadcast live for all to tune in and see. The actual PBS episode itself will air on November 16th, and will be a split show with (gulp) Kane Brown.

Other notables from the roots world who’ve been announced for the 45th Season of Austin City Limits include alt-country legend (and big Colter Wall fan) Steve Earle making his fifth appearance on the show. Earle will be doing his Guy Clark tribute with a little help from Joe Ely and Rodney Crowell as special guests. Songwriting legend and Austin resident Patty Griffin will be making her sixth ACL appearance, and Austin resident Gary Clark Jr. who will open the season on October 5th with a full hour show as part of his third appearance. The Revivalists, H.E.R., Maggie Rogers, and Vampire Weekend have also been announced for the season. Inexplicably, Austin City Limits has still not invited Ray Wylie Hubbard on the show.

Colter Wall is also releasing two new songs September 27th in the form of Colter Wall and the Scary Prairie Boys. The 7″, 45 rpm record will include covers of “Bob Fudge” written by legendary Canadian singer-songwriter Ian Tyson, and  “Happy Reunion” by Mike Beck. It will be available in physical form in select record stores and on Colter’s website, as well as digitally. Colter also just added some new tour dates with Robert Earl Keen (see below).

Adding the the “western” to “country” isn’t deprecated language when it comes to Colter Wall and his haunting voice that awakens the moan of the wind across the open Canadian plains, and the howl of the lone wolf burdened by lonesomeness and hunger. 2018’s Songs of the Plains was named a Saving Country Music Most Essential Album.
