Comic John Crist Lampoons Country Songs in Real Life Renditions

Ha! You gotta love this.

Comedian John Crist from Georgia is taking the lyrics of some of country music’s worst songs to task by turning literal interpretations of them into video skits. If you ever wondered how implausible the premise of Kenny Chesney’s “She Thinks My Tractor’s Sexy” is, or why endorsing the lyrics found Jason Aldean’s “Dirt Road Anthem” is an extrajudicial act, John Crist is here to illustrate it for you in real life scenarios.

Not to be a prude, but “Dirt Road Anthem” co-written by Colt Ford and Brantley Gilbert sets just about the worst example possible as it pretty much glorifies a drunk driver with an open container in the console swerving down the road, not to mention the song being both the first true mainstream country rap single in history, and the precursor to Bro-Country when it became the biggest-selling song in 2011.

In a video posted on December 7th, John Crist rightly takes the song to task when the protagonist of “Dirt Road Anthem” gets pulled over and arrested. Similar hilarity ensues in his interpretation of “She Think My Tractor’s Sexy,” which also had actual country fans hanging their heads in shame when it was released by Kenny Chesney in 1999. Crist has also released a skit surrounding “Good Directions” by Billy Currington.

Of course, you could do this same exercise with many classic country songs, or songs from more of the cool crowd in country music these days by playing out the lyrics in real life. It’s all in good fun. But it’s also a good example at some of the inanity found in modern country. Here’s to hoping Jon Crist does more in this series. His co-star is pretty hilarious too.
