There are few venues more historic than Gruene Hall in Texas, and few living country music artists more legendary than Loretta Lynn. This weekend in Gruene, TX (3-3 and 3-4), Loretta and her kin stopped in for a two-night residency at the legendary Gruene Hall, and country music fans from around the area packed themselves into the nearly 140-year-old dance hall to see one of the last living links to country music’s golden past, shimming in her powder blue coat and boots and showing no signs of age in her Hall of Fame voice.

Loretta Lynn’s 18-year-old granddaughter Emma Rose opened the show accompanied by two guitar players. Afterwards, Loretta’s twin daughters Peggy Jean and Patsy also came out to sing a few tunes. The latter is named for Patsy Cline, and on Saturday night—the eve of the anniversary of when Patsy, Cowboy Copas, and Hawkshaw Hawkins tragically died in a plane accident—Patsy’s memory was heavy in the room.

Loretta Lynn sang Patsy Cline’s “She’s Got You” for the Gruene Hall crowd, as well as many of her classic country songs that have gone on to define what country music is for generations. At now 84-years-old, Loretta stood during portions of the show, and chose to take a seat at center stage during others.
