Daryle Singletary “Keepin’ It Country” Tribute Concert Announced
Those looking for a way to show their final respects and remember the legacy of Daryle Singletary will have their opportunity at a open-to-the-public and free tribute concert and memorial Tuesday, March 27th and the Country Music Mother Church in Nashville. The Ryman Auditorium will be hosting the “Keepin’ It Country” tribute show for the staunch traditionalist, who died unexpectedly at the age of 46 due to a health issue on February 12th.
Eddie Stubbs of WSM Radio will host the event. Scheduled to perform is Jamey Johnson, frequent duet partner Rhonda Vincent, Alison Krauss, Chris Young, Darryl Worley, Josh Turner, Andy Griggs, Mo Pitney, Pete Schlegel, Curtis Wright, Jeff and Sheri Easter, and “Peach Pickers” Rhett Akins, Dallas Davidson, and Ben Hayslip. More names could be added closer to the event.
“He kept a light on for tradition-based music,” says Eddie Stubbs. “He found his audience, took care of them well and sang to them. He knew who he was and never forgot where he came from. He was the real deal, and his contributions and music will outlive us all on record and in the memories of his loved ones.”
Daryle Singletary became a popular country singer in the mid 90’s, earning three Top 5 hits with “I Let Her Lie,” “Too Much Fun,” and “Amen Kind Of Love.” Later into the 90’s and into the 2000’s as the radio hits stopped coming, Singletary became a perennial favorite of traditional country fans for holding onto his staunch traditional sound. Singletary is survived by his wife Holly, and four children: 7-year-old twin boys Mercer and Jonah, 5-year-old daughter Nora Caroline and 3-year-old daughter Charlotte Rose.
Two weeks before Daryle Singletary died, he performed at a similar tribute for the recently-passed Mel Tillis. Though the event is open and free, tickets still may need to be obtained, and seating may be limited. More information on tickets and potential broadcasts will be forthcoming when it is made available. A YouCaring campaign has been created to help pay for Singletary’s funeral expenses.

Dallas Davidson?
I thought the tablet of Akhmenrah’s curse meant he could only move around INSIDE the museum of trashy white dudes and if he went outside during daylight he’d turn to dust…
Also I can already hear Big Bird saying “okay kids, one of these things is not like the others.”
“Day 387, they still haven’t noticed I’m not a Country Music singer.”
I could meme this for hours.
Seriously who signed off on this?
It’s very disrespectful to Singletary’s love of traditional Country Music to let a shithead like Davidson perform.
is there a petition or backlash I can get involved with?

To be fair, Dallas and Daryle are both from Southwest, Ga. Dallas being from Albany and Daryle being from Cairo. That’s the only reason I can think of why he would sing.

I’m pretty sure Daryle mentioned him as a friend in the acknowledgments on the “There’s Still A Little Country Left” album, and the Peach Pickers wrote one of the songs on the album.

If there *is* some sort of fundraiser for Singletary’s family involved here, as I am truly hoping there is, Kid Rock could be onstage spinning on the ones and twos and the proper thing to do would be to shut your mouth and respectfully realize this is for a greater good.

Fuzzywuzzy, you seriously need to learn what “Benefit Concert” means.

you need to learn what “in poor taste” means.
you need to learn what “disrespectful” means.

A friend of Daryle’s performing in his honor is the opposite of both those things.

There has been no bigger opponent of Dallas Davidson in print over the years than myself. I got all kinds of problems with the music of the Godfather of Bro-Country. But I’ve got no problem with him paying tribute to a friend who has passed away. If we can’t come together in death, how are we ever supposed to come together in life?

The irony if Dallas sings “I Still Sing This Way.”
Our manager called said, ‘We need to talk’
So I met him on the eighteenth floor
He said, ‘Daryle, we need to change a couple of things
‘Cause country ain’t country no more’
We need a little more glitz and a little more glamor
A few fireworks and some half naked dancers
I said, ‘Okay, that’s fine with me
The only problem I see’
I still sing this way, the only way I know
Straight from the heart, a little through my nose
You can dress me up in leather pants
Put me in front of a rock ‘n’ roll band
I can dance around the stage but I still sing this way

I’m not sure if it has happened more, but I know of at least one occasion where William Michael Morgan and Trent Tomlinson teamed up to perform a concert that Daryle Singletary was originally scheduled for and used the event as a fundraiser for his family. It wasn’t any kind of big event as it was in a bar in a town of under 10,000, so for them to take the time out of their schedules (especially a rising star like WMM) to play that show was really awesome to see.

Here here. Fuzzy is right fuck this guy. Fox in the henhouse if there ever was one. Disrespectful doesn’t begin to describe what including this guy in a tribute to Darlyle means.

You nor Fuzzy have a clue. Daryle and Dallas were best of friends for more than a decade. Between their love of music, the outdoors, and hunting, they also have both raised a lot of money for charitable causes together. I can guarantee you Daryle would very much want Dallas performing at this tribute show. Channel your negative energies in a different direction

Somebody please explain who Dallas Davidson is and why he is such a scroundrel.

Dallas Davidson is seen as an architect of a lot of what is wrong in today’s country music as a songwriter and including 2 of the worst offenders Boys Round Here and Honky Tonk Badonkadonk. However, when I went and actually looked at his catalog, I was surprised how many songs are decent songs like Justin Moore’s If Heaven or Josh Turner’s All Over Me. It seems to me he may get a little bit of a bad rap as being all bad when there is certainly some good mixed in there. Regardless, several here are right in that this is about Daryle and not us and if Daryle chose to be friends with him he should absolutely be there.

Dallas Davidson and Rhett Akins showing up to a Daryle Singletary tribute/benefit show? Yeah, sorry, I don’t like that either. Of course I’m not saying they can’t pay their respects, but the sheer irony of them simply being there is glaring.

They were close friends of Daryle. It would be weirder if they weren’t there.

Rhett sung and co-wrote “That Ain’t My Truck”, one of my favorites from the 90’s. I hear from a guy that knows hi he is a great guy. Done.

The saddest thing (even beyond this silly squabbling about who should and should not be on the tribute show) is that someone who devoted his time and talent to singing true country music and being acclaimed for it apparently did not leave an estate large enough to pay for his funeral expenses. It would be nice if one of these current “country” stars who are raking in the big bucks would step in and just pay it and let the family have the campaign funds for their future expenses. And hopefully though the concert is free, they will accept donations for the family.

Pretty sure Daryle Singletary wouldn’t want sellouts like Chris Young and Rhett Akins on this show.

Daryle and Rhett Akins both launched their careers around the same time. In 2001, Daryle asked Rhett if he wanted to go on tour together, and they formed the “Honky Tonk Tailgate Tour” which successfully ran for a number of years. They’ve remained friends over the years. There’s a recent photo on Instagram where the two went hunting together just last year.

Fans are so immature. They think that performing artists share the same petty obsessions that THEY do. Artists know how difficult the business is and they respect people who can be successful at it–whatever genre or sub-genre they inhabit. Daryle Singletary had more in common with Chris Young and Rhett Akins–and with Jay Z and Kanye West–than with “Strait Country 81.”
