Dolly Parton Signs Big Deal with Sony/ATV
Dolly Parton with her massive and legendary catalog of songs has just singed a major deal with the biggest publishing concern in all of music—Sony/ATV. The company will now represent all of Dolly Parton’s songs, including country standards such as “Jolene” and “Coat of Many Colors,” and “I Will Always Love You.” Dolly isn’t just one of the most successful songwriters in history, she’s also one of the most prolific, with some 3,000 individual compositions credited to her name. They will now all be handled by Sony/ATV moving forward.
“I am very excited to be working with Sony/ATV. They know my catalog and they know me. Get ready, you’re going to be hearing a lot more from me!” Dolly says.
As a publishing company, it’s Sony/ATV’s job to not just manage Dolly’s songs, but push her music out to the public through placement opportunities in films, television shows, advertisements, video games, and wherever else someone is looking for a good song. With radio going away from supporting legendary artists like Dolly, these alternative avenues for songs can play a pivotal role in promoting artists.
“Dolly Parton is a true musical icon and we are unbelievably excited to get the chance to work with her again,” says Sony/ATV Chairman and CEO Martin Bandier. “Her importance, influence and legacy as a recording artist is recognized the world over, but more than anything she stands out as an exceptional songwriter with a peerless catalog of songs, which we are honored to represent.”
Dolly Parton is also currently signed to RCA Nashville, which is an imprint of Sony. Dolly has been in the news quite a bit lately. She has an 8-part movie series coming up later this year with Netflix based off of many of her most iconic songs, and she recently saw a boost in attention after the Grammy Awards paid tribute to her in February. The move with the song catalog is likely about hoping to stimulate more attention to Dolly Parton’s legendary songs in popular culture as she continues to cement her place as one of country music’s most lenendary performers of all time.
Dolly Parton is a member of the Country Music Hall of Fame, the Songwriters Hall of Fame, has 25 #1 songs to her name, 50 Top 10 songs, and a record-breaking 44 Top 10 albums in country.

EXCUSE ME! I find it very offensive that you’re referring to Miss Dolly Parton as a B!tch. No true fan would refer to her that way. So to you and the individuals that clicked your Like button, Sod Off!

”25 #1 songs to her name, 50 Top 10 songs, and a record-breaking 44 Top 10 albums in country.”
statistics like these are not just stunning …..they make contemporary country radio look so dumb and , in fact , OUT of touch . its like having the most perfect spouse on the planet and cheating on them simply because you’ve come across someone younger .
the same analogy applies to folks like George Strait , AJ , of course , Vince , Reba and so many ,many others with similar career statistics and still capable of delivering the goods on a high , professional level. why on God’s good earth , when these people still have HUGE , longtime loyal followings does mainstream not want them as part of their playlists and appreciate how enormously important they are to the the genre and to people’s lives.
they are falling all over the new George song up here in Vancouver ……..playing it like its the first time he’s ever been on radio . THANK God , of course ….its radio -friendly , it stands out from all of the generic same -groove , same contemporary fare in lyric and arrangement , its fun and its dance-floor proof . DUH !!! OF COURSE its getting attention …
WHY do labels and radio struggle to force so much new stuff down our throats when ” it ain’t broke “???? dolly should be on the radio right alongside the maren morris’ ,the musgraves and the ballerini’s . in fact with dolly and george , joe nichols and so many other tried and true ‘veterans ‘ still on the radio , these newer artists would likely have to raise their game and ultimately become better at it . yeah yeah ….we get the idea that things need to evolve……new blood is important and necessary ….but how the hell can you ignore the popularity of a dolly parton …a popularity that resonates with every demographic , every music lover and every artist ? how does THAT not work to a label and radio’s benefit ?? she’s always active …writing , touring , involved with broadway , involved with netflix series , dollywood , her books and reading foundations etc etc etc . She is not only supremely gifted and talented but she is still A face of country music ….which is otherwise pretty-much faceless outside of a very young ( fickle ) demographic.
The irony is that Dolly doesn’t need radio . Radio and its eroding listener base desperately need folks like Dolly .

Couldn’t agree more with you Albert. Here in America these so-called called “classic” artist are still recording music most on there own labels and a lot have gone over to BlueGrass or Americana/folk music. I have gone over to these other genres myself, especially since country radio won’t play women anymore and that’s were you’ll find them. There are some truly wonderful acts that are recording still and some new ones that will amaze you.

Dolly is the biggest female star ever in country music and maybe only three or four men have topped her when it comes to charted songs and albums. Wouldn’t surprise me to see her climb even higher on the Billboard chart totals.
