Garth Brooks Wants to Make 5 (Yes, 5!) More Chris Gaines Albums

If the first iteration of Chris Gaines wasn’t controversial enough, get ready for five (yes, five!) more Chris Gaines albums to complete the universe of the Garth Brooks sex-addicted emo pop star alter ego.
In 1999, a bored Garth Brooks growing tired of dominating country music recorded and released the album Garth Brooks in … the Life of Chris Gaines, promoting it with a VH1 Behind The Music mockumentary and Saturday Night Live appearance. There was also supposed to be a Chris Gaines movie, but when the backlash against the project grew, Garth Brooks scrapped it. Depending on who you speak to, Chris Gaines is one of the most intriguing side projects in music history, or one of country’s most embarrassing moments.
The Life of Chris Gaines still went 2X Platinum even with the criticism, and had a Gold Certified single in “Lost in You.” Those well-versed in the Chris Gaines universe know that despite being a one-off album, The Life of Chris Gaines was actually supposed to be a “Greatest Hits” package from the Chris Gaines career, pulling from five separate hypothetical albums. Well lo and behold, Garth Brooks intends to record and release those five Chris Gaines albums, at least at some point.
Speaking to Billboard as part of a CMA Fest event, Garth told them when they asked if there will be more Chris Gaines albums in the future, “Yeah, there’s five of them. The five albums have to come out.”
Yes, five. Though it sounds like Chris Gaines fans shouldn’t hold their breath for that to happen any time soon.
“I don’t know if it’s just because I’m 114, but now everything takes three hours more than it took time to do before,” said Garth. “Business-wise I’ll say I’ve never been this busy before in my life, and I’m not as in the eye of the public as I was. So I think what it’s telling me as an older artist, you have to work a lot, lot, lot—not work, put in more time—to get the same results.
“The Gaines project was a lot of time put in because it’s not natural,” Garth continues. “You’re acting on record. But I want to do it just simply for the people who love the Gaines project. Selfishly, I love the Chris Gaines record, so I want to do it for me. It challenged me as a vocalist. So I don’t know when we’re going to get to it, but it’s on the list.”
New Chris Gaines music isn’t all Garth Brooks is working on. He’s been hinting for a while that he has a duets album with wife Trisha Yearwood, and he also said during the Billboard interview that he has another duets album on the way featuring other artists that will include old and new songs.

Press “x” to doubt
June 9, 2023 @ 9:57 am
The hate will be immense. Should be fun to witness.
June 9, 2023 @ 10:01 am
I may be in the minority but I actually liked the Chris Gaines album. At the time, there was supposed to be a CG movie called “The Lamb” that never came to fruition. I guess that made more sense from a marketing perspective. I think he should just lose the persona and release the music as Garth Brooks. He’s earned the right as an artist to explore new sounds and expand; I think the CG concept is unnecessary and confusing. I’m especially looking forward to the other projects mentioned – there’s never enough Trisha Yearwood.
June 9, 2023 @ 10:42 am
I liked the Chris Gaines album as well. It was odd and unique and I think the only thing working against it was the alter-ego persona. Brooks was already at the point in his career where he could have said “I want to try something different, release something not in the country space” (and yes, I realize a lot of people will already claim he isn’t country) that he could have done it and it probably would have been a bit better received.
June 9, 2023 @ 10:59 am
But this wasn’t a Sheb Wooley/Ben Colder, Grainger Smith/Earl Dibbles, Jr. thing where he just wanted to do different music, though. The concept started with a fictional singer who just happened to be played by Garth Brooks. It failed because he did it in reverse order of what he should have. I think if he had led with the movie it would have been more clear to the general public that Chris Gaines was just a character being portrayed by Garth Brooks (a la George Strait as Wyatt “Dusty” Chandler) rather than some bizarre alter-ego and the whole concept would have been better received..
June 9, 2023 @ 10:21 am
Had to search on Frankenfurter.
June 9, 2023 @ 10:29 am
Now that’s an idea: Garth Brooks sings The Rocky Horror Picture Show. In fact he could go for more points by having an old stadium stand in for the Frankenstein place so he can sing Toucha Toucha Touch me with Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler while they shower together naked in Bud Light at an old stadium like they did at farewell concert for some stadium and no thats not a joke.
June 9, 2023 @ 10:30 am
I may or may not still sing “Lost In You” in the shower. I won’t give money for these songs, but my youtube will be lit.
June 9, 2023 @ 10:38 am
Yeah, I checked out on Garth after the Sevens album. After listening to that piece of work, I could hear where he was wanting to go and it wasn’t country.
I’ve heard nothing from him that would entice me to go back.
June 9, 2023 @ 11:01 am
Knowing Garth, the additional five albums will probably be five new releases of the same album with one different additional song each and different cover art.
June 9, 2023 @ 3:27 pm
Or 5 albums, boxed together, with the same track list and ever so slightly different productions. Or as I like to call it, the Childers method.
June 9, 2023 @ 11:11 am
Simply not interested, but thanks for the article, I guess.
June 9, 2023 @ 11:14 am
Did nobody see this coming? Did anybody listed to the god-awful Garth Channel in the last few years of its existence? At the beginning it was good, it played a mix of country and americana. But then it became more R&B than anything else.
That would be a huge disappointment.
June 9, 2023 @ 1:12 pm
Garth played way too much Kiss and Billy Joel on his channel for it ever to last on my radio for more than three or four songs.
June 9, 2023 @ 11:53 am
No thanks , Dierks Bentley, and hot country knights do it so much better, but if that is what garth wants to do with his time and money, then that’s on him, I am sure there are fans out there that like his alter ego, but a big pass for me.
June 9, 2023 @ 11:53 am
My guess is that he will release a box set of the 5 CDs. I think the “look” he had for that album is what really turned people off more than anything. Main Street and It Don’t Matter to the Sun are in my opinion 2 of the best songs in Garth’s catalog. I think Lost in You and Driftin’ Away are good too but it does make me wonder how much good material would be on 5 CDs if “The Life of Chris Gaines” was his greatest hits package for that character.
June 9, 2023 @ 12:14 pm
It Don’t Matter to the Sun is a great song written by Gordon Kennedy and covered by Don Henley on his country record.
June 9, 2023 @ 12:47 pm
It is an absolute riot. He is so far removed from the real world. But Hey, let him go for it if he wants.. IDK whether it is an honest love of his, or just seeing dollar signs.. I do understand the concept of it all. But things get warped in Garthland.
June 9, 2023 @ 1:02 pm
Lets be real… Lost in You was a banger.
June 9, 2023 @ 1:02 pm
He is also Brooks Jefferson on Spotify

The male Shania Twain, just not as pretty.
It’s like passing a burning clown car on the side of the road. Just stare straight ahead and keep driving.
June 9, 2023 @ 1:43 pm
Where are the bodies Garth! We’re not falling for your witness protection persona. The victim’s families want answers.
June 9, 2023 @ 2:31 pm
Please go away Garth. It’s all sucked for a very long time.
June 9, 2023 @ 2:35 pm
I never understood the selective outrage of people being upset about a fake and marketed character dressing up as another fake and marketed character. Seems kind of “in character” to me….?
You go Garth.
June 9, 2023 @ 2:42 pm
I just see this as rich people doing rich people stuff. He’s filthy rich. He has less than 20 years to live and nothing to accomplish. So this is him indulging himself.
Wouldn’t it be nice if he loved C(c)ountry Music as much as he always claimed to, and proved it by indulging himself by cutting some albums that sounded like his first one? Or even a duet album with George Strait?
June 9, 2023 @ 3:12 pm
Are…are you going to kill Garth in 20 years?

Agreed Honkster. Why not a western swing, Bob Wills type record, or just a plain ol Honky- Tonkin album with killer musicians on it like Vince and Paul are doing. Would be sort of a dance with the one who brung ya kinda move. Acknowledge the roots of what he tagged onto initially. Easy Peasy.
But nope. Mindless dreck from the master of lame….yawn…
June 9, 2023 @ 7:36 pm
I am still waiting for Brad Paisley to make another album like his first couple.
June 10, 2023 @ 1:20 am
His first album is his best album. There are songs on there that should have been release to radio that weren’t. Alabama Clay is one of his best ever and it wasn’t even released to radio.
June 9, 2023 @ 3:51 pm
I would hope any true country fan will give those albums the cold shoulder
June 9, 2023 @ 6:45 pm
Shut up.
June 10, 2023 @ 8:04 am
Shut don’t go up but your hard on for Garth does.
June 10, 2023 @ 11:03 am
My genitals are none of your business, as much as you wish they were.
June 9, 2023 @ 4:50 pm
Rather than voice my opinion about Garth Brooks/Chris Gaines, I have decided to let an AI art program try to show us what Garth would look like. The results are… interesting.
https://deepai.org/machine-learning-model/text2img
You’ll have to enter the info to get the results, it cycles through several potential outcomes.
I’ve tried this with several other artists including Hank Williams, Dolly Parton and Sturgill Simpson. Some results are pretty spot on, others are complete misses and some are just… bizarre. If you’re bored, it’s good for a quick laugh, enjoy!
June 9, 2023 @ 5:01 pm
WHO CARES…IS ALL I CAN SAY!!!! He’s retired more than once. He’s also stated that country music wouldn’t be today if it wasn’t for him. YEAH RIGHT!!!!!!!! There were many artists that came before him that made the genre (The Carter Family, Johnny Cash, Hank Williams SR & JR, Ray Price, Ernest Tubb, Patsy Cline, Loretta Lynn, Dolly Parton, Tammy Wynette, etc, etc…..etc). I could keep going for quite a while. Garth Brooks isn’t all that great. He was for people that listened to ROCK that said well they were listening to country now cause they liked Garth Brooks. Seriously he should just retire again….case closed!!!!!!!!
June 9, 2023 @ 5:11 pm
The Daily Show with Jon Stewart “Alter Egomaniac” (1999) does a good job of lampooning the confusing NBC special. Maybe Garth and Chris could collaborate on a duets album. Zoinks!
June 9, 2023 @ 5:11 pm
I can’t believe I’m the first comment that mentions “Alright Guy” from the vault.
June 9, 2023 @ 7:37 pm
Can’t helping thinking of Family Guy
June 9, 2023 @ 8:18 pm
I didn’t ask for this. And now that I’ve been informed of it, I still don’t want it.
Now, OTOH, what about this Colby Acuff album sitting on Apple’s new release page?!? Now, I didn’t ask for it, either, but it’s a delightful surprise. He’s another gem out of ID. Been digging through his back catalog, and it’s pretty damn brilliant. Am kinda surprised that the SCM Search doesn’t produce any hits on him…
June 9, 2023 @ 9:04 pm
The title track to Colby Acuff’s new album “Western White Pines” was featured in the Saving Country Music Top 25 Current Playlist for about three months.
https://www.savingcountrymusic.com/newest-adds-to-saving-country-musics-top-25-current-playlist-114/
He’s also been mentioned/tagged on the site seven separate times, so he’s not been ignored here. That said, I had no idea he was releasing a new album today. I’d been receiving emails from him up until March. My guess is this is when he signed to Sony, and thought their big publicity wing would do the work for him, and they didn’t. The new album’s on my radar now and I’ll consider it for review.
June 9, 2023 @ 10:25 pm
Ah – I must’ve gotten buggered by the spellchecker in my phone. The first time I typed his name I caught it changing him to “Scuff”, but I didn’t catch it in the search box.
June 10, 2023 @ 5:58 am
Colby’s new album has a track on it with the forbidden word Outlaw in the title. Best to just dismiss the entire album.
Sorry. Just being a smartass. Actually accidentally found the album as well and I’m liking it. Even the outlaw song.
June 9, 2023 @ 10:48 pm
In the same way that Batman is the true face of Bruce Wayne, I believe this alter ego is the true persona of Garth Brooks. Allowing him to take a deep dive in the head space of truer part of himself will most likely get us all the more closer to him telling us where the bodies are buried.
June 9, 2023 @ 10:49 pm
Happy pride month

Happy National Dairy Farm Month
June 9, 2023 @ 10:51 pm
The reality is that Garth isn’t as commercially viable as he once was. Sure, he can sell a tour, but his last albums – with new content – have not done well. Will a Chris Gaines album fare better? Obviously not, and I would guess the songs included on whichever albums won’t see the light of day on tour or the radio. In that sense, this is a huge waste of time, but if Garth wants to cosplay as a pop artist, more power to him.
June 10, 2023 @ 12:46 am
I don’t think Garth ever really liked country music.
June 10, 2023 @ 3:08 am
I liked the Chris Gaines album, its going to be a Chris Gaines Box set, but its years down the road. The duet album with Trisha comes next year. The duet album with other artists comes this fall.
June 10, 2023 @ 3:23 am
Garth needs to be honest with himself and everyone. Would explain a lot of his actions over the years.
June 10, 2023 @ 4:44 am
Credit to Garth for announcing that his new bar will sell Bud Light and will not tolerate transphobia.
June 10, 2023 @ 8:09 am
He can sell it, but will people buy it is the real question.
June 10, 2023 @ 1:11 pm
He called those of us that prefer not to look at a tranny on our can of beer a-holes. Guess you arent allowed to disagree? Wont be buying butt light or any other crap he is selling- albums included. He should have taken a lesson from Dolly Parton on entertainers being political….
June 10, 2023 @ 4:22 pm
The tranny cans weren’t available to the public. One 6-pack was made and sent to Mulvaney. Even if they made a small batch for retail, you could always opt for the regular cans. But don’t let that keep y’all from getting your panties in a bunch. You have to stop diversity and inclusion no matter how minor the act is!
June 10, 2023 @ 5:55 pm
“Diversity” is what’s led to toddlers getting stabbed in Paris yesterday.
June 11, 2023 @ 10:48 am
That’s about the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard. What’s the conspiracy theory that’s got you thinking that?
June 11, 2023 @ 11:17 am
People think diversity and multiculturalism is just ordering Thai food.

Let’s move on from this discussion, folks. The topic here is Garth Brooks and his Chris Gaines alter ego.
June 10, 2023 @ 5:57 pm
No ones panties are in a bunch. I love the free market. I love it when dipshytes reveal themselves so I can give my money to people I like better. Its a good system and Garth did me a solid as did Bud! Enjoy your Bud bud.
June 10, 2023 @ 7:19 pm
There seems to be a lot of anger and hate in your heart. I genuinely hope that you’re able to grow and educate yourself in this things that you have trouble understanding.
June 10, 2023 @ 1:58 pm
As far as the music goes, if the Chris Gaines albums are as weak as Garth’s last three albums, I don’t see the point. As other people have said, it will likely be a box set priced low to pump up his over all album sales. Each CD in a box set counts as one sale, which is why Garth has released so many cheaply priced box sets. A 5CD box set that sells 100,000 copies counts as 500,000 in sales. It’s all about numbers and marketing for GB.
Garth tries so hard to be everything to everyone, so his support of Bud Light (which likely won’t even exist by the time his bar opens) is silly. Transphobia is just another made up word by virtue-signalling wankers. Disagreeing with someone or something is not a phobia. People need to get real. If you are man or woman and you want to pretend you’re the opposite of what you are, go for it. Just stop expecting special treatment or for everyone to support your choices. Live and let live only seems to apply to a certain section of the population.
June 10, 2023 @ 6:51 am
My guess is the new album will have 60 second pauses after each song so the listener can applause and pay their respects to the greatness of Garth and 1/3 of the album will actually be sung by Trisha. Guess she will need a new character to play as well. HIs ego is never ending.
He could do so much more to promote country music and upcoming artist but he chooses to continue to make it all about him.
June 10, 2023 @ 9:39 am
Garth like most successful performers especially it seems in Country music attracts a fair amount of haters. I have never understood why. I am a Garth fan and I make no apology for it. He is a great songwriter, a good singer and a great performer. The Gaines project was a surprise in view of the success he was having and a perhaps a bit odd. But all credit for him for taking a chance and trying something different. The fact is, it is not a bad album. Not his best but there are many much worse albums out there. It had some good songs.
June 10, 2023 @ 11:26 am
Just because Garth says it , doesn’t mean it’s necessarily it’s going to happen. Garth also said that the original Chris Gaines album would be the soundtrack of a major movie with Garth starring as Chris Gaines.
June 10, 2023 @ 1:39 pm
Wheres the bodies Garth?
June 10, 2023 @ 2:29 pm
This decision is somehow more silly than his decision to sell Bud Light at his bar while calling any people who disagree “assholes.”
OK, Garth. Keep chasing this rabbit hole.
“Much Too Young” is still an all-time great song.
June 10, 2023 @ 2:29 pm
Garth has to be doing this to capitalize off of the attention from Tom Segura and the popularity of 90s country again. Bad publicity is still publicity…
June 10, 2023 @ 8:21 pm
Garth Brooks/Sasha Fierce redux?
June 11, 2023 @ 12:46 pm
Where’s the bodies at Chris?
June 11, 2023 @ 1:08 pm
Garth brooks biggest fraud in country music, George strait a close second. Maybe that’s why he has to make an album under another name. He sure fooled a lot of people. Waylon wasn’t kidding when he figured him to be a fraud. I think Waylon was the only one who knew what mr. Brooks was all about
June 11, 2023 @ 1:31 pm
What’s this about George Strait being a fraud?
