God Cancels Jason Aldean Concert in Kansas
Pop country artist Jason Aldean was scheduled to take the stage at the Country Stampede Festival in Topeka, Kansas Saturday night (6-22) as the 3-day event’s 2019 top headliner act. But God was having none of it. Saturday afternoon saw strong storms roll into the area right as Morgan Wallen and his atomic mullet were finishing up their set, sending fans scurrying for cover as rain and dangerous lightning moved in, suspending the festivities. Organizers were still hoping that Jason Aldean could take the stage after a delayed start time, but God was persistent, and the weather never subsided.
“It wasn’t getting any better,” Jason Aldean said to fans in an Instagram post. “We looked at the radar, and there was still hours of the stuff left to go. We put it off as long as we could, hoping that we would have a break in it enough to play our show for you guys, but it just wasn’t gonna happen. I apologize, we always hate to do that, it’s a last resort. It’s never what we want to happen. We were here ready to party with you guys. I hate it went down like that.”
The performance still could have gone forward in light or even moderate rain, but lightning made any further performances a safety hazard. Organizers held out hope all the way until midnight that Jason Aldean could take the stage before canceling the performance altogether.
In May, Country Stampede announced it was relocating from the Tuttle Creek State Park in Manhattan, Kansas where it had been held for the last 23 years to the Heartland Motorsports Park in Topeka, Kansas 1 1/2 hours away, partially due to flooding concerns with the previous site. Friday of the festival also saw issues due to weather.
God, a well-known traditional country fan, could not be reached for comment.

In 2003 Country Stampede in Sparta Kentucky there was a severe storm that blew through too. I was upset. I wanted to see Gary Allan and Sawyer Brown.

Great and powerful wind aside, the God I want to believe in wouldn’t allow Jason Aldean to exist in the country music space in the first place…

Jason Aldean exists so that we can distinguish between bad and good country music. 🙂

Worst guy in country music if you ask me. Even worse than Sam Hunt. If it wasn’t for garbage like Aldean and Toby Keith, who broke the doors open for bro country, dumb songs and country rap, country music radio might still be good -at least enjoyable.

I’d love to snicker at this, but knowing what it’s like to have to handle the aftermath on social media after a festival gets rained out … even I can’t. I wouldn’t wish that on anyone.

Yeah. And, it’s easy to get caught up in snark and forget that concert-goers have died in the last several years because of failures to cancel (among other worse and more deadly circumstances).
Filing this under “news” is a stretch. Opinion? Satire? Humor?
News would be that a person was stabbed during a melee that resulted when Whalen cancelled a concert less than an hour before showtime at a 5,000 seat amphitheater due to “illness” after days of playing (kinda)star and having fun posting photos of himself ostensibly peeing in front of a tour bus during CMT week.
I’m not above picking fun. But, please, be one of the ‘volunteer journalists’ who clearly noted what role he’s serving in a post.
Not a big deal on the Aldean article. But, the Keith Whitley discussion revealed a lack of awareness of the line between speculation and fact, and how important it is when operating as a reporter, rather than a critic or op-ed writer, or even historical fiction-writer.
Admittedly, I just caught one of the Skynryd documentaries recently, and imagined how it would feel to be a family member of theirs or any of the attendees at 91 Harvest and hear some smart aleck crack about God wanting to cancel or shorten the accompanying tour dates for those events.

“Pop country singer” would be most accurate. Whatever he does isn’t art.

That’s why I don’t invest too early or too much on outdoor venue concerts.
We got great tickets for Outlaw Fest day of (10th row, $74 face value), but we got tossed before Willie’s finale because some guy two rows back asked me to sit down. After I said, “no” he smacked me in back if the head (not hard but enough to push my hat forward). So I knocked him around a little and he went and told security (I was happy with the result). We both got tossed. I know I should have just told security, but I’m used to lawn seats were you just take care of that shit on your own.

That sucks for his fans. Stampede tickets aren’t cheap.
And that was a pretty bad storm we had last week, some of the strongest winds I’ve seen here in years. Our trees were bending at the trunks. The lightning was constant and very close. All the rain we’ve had here in Kansas has pretty much cancelled all summer activities at the lakes, with all campgrounds and docks under water. And on the days in between storms we have 90 degree humid conditions with no breeze.
I’m ready for fall and winter, please.

Let’s see how he handles this. Similar thing happened a few years ago at Riverfest in Little Rock. The performer was Cody Jinks. A few months later he organized a free concert in the amphitheater with his buddy Ward.
I was just getting introduced to Cody’s work, but this made me a fan for life.
Yeah I doubt this sellout does anything close.
