Jamey Johnson Emerges on New Chris Hennessee Track “Wrong End of the Rainbow”

If you’re jonesing for a Jamey Johnson fix since it’s been so long since we’ve heard from the songwriter, you can get a healthy dose on the new song from Johnson’s running buddy and band member Chris Hennessee. He just released a brand new track with Jamey Johnson guesting called “Wrong End of the Rainbow,” and in the parlance of the youth of our time, it’s a banger.

Chris Hennessee’s “Wrong End of the Rainbow” is the first salvo from an upcoming record in June that was produced by Jim “Moose” Brown. It will be Hennessee’s 4th release overall, and his latest since 2015’s Greetings From Hennessee. “This is the most excited I’ve ever been about any project,” Chris says. “The songs, the production, even the artwork are a reflection of where I come from and where I’ve always wanted to go musically.”

“Wrong End of the Rainbow” is a bad luck song if there ever was one, but the fortune is good for those thirsty for true country music and the twang of “Cowboy” Eddie Long’s steel guitar. Jamey and Chris trade of verses and then come together to sing what’s a rousing track for such depressing subject matter.

Hennessee first joined Jamey Johnson’s band in 2012, and since then has also opened shows for Johnson on a regular basis. He will also be playing with Johnson and others as part of the house band for the Country Music Hall of Fame’s opening concert for their Outlaws and Armadillos exhibit May 25th.

“I met Chris Hennessee around January of 2000 when I first moved to Nashville,” Jamey Johnson says. “Like so many other songwriters and musicians, I would frequent the famous watering holes on lower Broadway looking for any sort of connection I could make with someone in the music industry and falling short of that I would settle for a chance to sing a country song to whoever cared to listen. Most of the guys who had secured themselves a house gig in one of those bars would be stingy with the microphone when approached by a stranger asking for a turn but Chris was never the selfish type. He would always let me join his band for a song or two if he saw me in the crowd.”

More info on Chris Hennessee’s new album when it comes available, and hopefully “Wrong End of the Rainbow” gives Johnson a taste for recording new music himself.
