Jason Eady Announces New Album “I Travel On”

It’s Christmas in May for traditional country fans who love their music served with excellent songwriting. Jason Eady is one of the apex predators of the traditional country realm, and he’ll be delivering 11 brand new tunes when his latest album I Travel On is released on August 10th.

A different methodology was employed to compose and record I Travel On compared to previous efforts. This is the first record Eady’s recorded with his touring band. Also along for the ride are Rob Ickes and Trey Hensley, who the bluegrass world needs no introduction to. These two maestros have been lighting bluegrass channels on fire, and they now come in to lend their services to this acoustic-only album. Courtney Patton also participates, lending backing vocals.

“One of the best things about making this album is that it was all done live—just six guys with acoustic instruments sitting in a room together, playing these songs we’d been working out for a while on the road,” says Eady. “Having Rob & Trey join us in the studio sparked a whole new fire to give it that spontaneous feel. The whole process was magic.”

Along with single-take sessions, Eady also explains that he wrote this album with a different approach from his records in the past, penning nearly everything in a month-long span.

“Normally I take my pick of the songs I’ve come up with since the last album, but this time I was writing specifically for this record,” Eady says. “And because the album’s so groove-centered, I focused on the way words rolled off the tongue and how they moved with the music. If something felt good to sing, I just let it be instead of going back and editing myself like I might’ve done in the past.”

Jason Eady’s last few records have won him strong acclaim for both his adherence to traditional country roots, and his songwriting which puts him in contention with some of the best in Americana. The Ft. Worth native worked with Kevin Welch on his three previous projects, including 2017’s self-titled effort.
