Jason Eady Offers 1st Taste of New Music with “Back To Normal”

Shots in arms and loosening restrictions have life slowly but surely getting back to a reasonable semblance of normalcy for most of us, and Texas-based songwriting demigod Jason Eady is letting loose on some new material to help celebrate and ease the transition. His first taste of new music recorded last fall is called “Back To Normal”—a song he wrote in June when we didn’t know when normal would re-emerge.

“‘Back to Normal’ is a song that came from the quarantine but is meant to apply to any situation after a disruption,”
says Eady. “No matter how big or small that disruption is, you have to accept that change is a fundamental part of life, and just keep moving forward. This was recorded in Austin with some of my favorite players I’ve met through the yearsThis was an incredible way to record a song about weathering the storm.”

Featuring Geoff Queen (lap steel), Noah Jeffries (mandolin), Brian Ferguson (drums), and Mark Williams (bass), and harmony vocals by Courtney Patton and Jamie Lin Wilson, “Back To Normal” was produced by Eady’s longtime friend Gordy Quist of Band of Heathens.

“I sort of handpicked the band from all my favorite players around Austin that I’ve met over the years. Everything you hear is exactly what happened when we hit record—there’s no studio trickery,” says Eady. “It’s got a real family-band feeling to it, where everyone in the room knew how to play in a way that completely fits with what I do.”

Originally from Mississippi but calling Texas home for some 20 years, Jason Eady has become one of the patron saints of songwriting in the Texas and Red Dirt scenes, and one of the principal members of the Sequestered Songwriters series commencing most Mondays during the quarantine, paying tribute to past musical great in country music and beyond.

“I wanted to write about how, when things get disrupted, you can never really return to the way they were before,” says Eady. “No matter how big or small that disruption is, you have to accept that change is a fundamental part of life, and just keep moving forward.”

There’s no specific news on when we may be graced with the new album from Eady aside from “later this year,” but “Back To Normal” certainly has us looking forward to it.
