Jerry Lee Lewis Is Back Home After Rehabilitation from Stroke
83-year-old Jerry Lee Lewis is on the road to full recovery after suffering a mild stroke earlier this year. The episode happened with the country and rock ‘n roll icon on February 28th, and though he initially wasn’t expected to miss any performance commitments, in late March he was forced to cancel numerous shows while continuing his recovery, including a high-profile performance at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, and a June 8th appearance at The Birchmere in Alexandria, Virginia.
Then on May 21st, Lewis cancelled another performance at the Schermerhorn Symphony Center in Nashville scheduled for July 1st, leading to more concern about his health. But the good news is that The Killer is on the mend, and is even planning to get back in the studio soon to release new music.
“Jerry Lee Lewis is back home after a successful stay at a rehabilitation center following a stroke earlier this year,” his publicist Zach Farnum said recently. “He is right on track to be back on stage soon and will be heading into the studio in the next couple of months to record a Gospel record. The Killer wants to express his continued appreciation to his fans across the world for their continued thoughts and prayers.”
Neurologist Rohini Bohle of the Methodist Le Bonheur in Memphis, Tennessee who initially treated Jerry Lee Lewis said that he should be able to make a full recovery from the episode.
Though Jerry Lee Lewis is mostly known as a rock and roll piano player, his career caught a second wind as a country music performer, transitioning to the genre in 1968 after recording the Jerry Chestnut song “Another Place, Another Time.” The song became an unexpected hit in country, and Jerry Lee Lewis moved to the genre full time, logging 17 Top 10 hits and four #1’s by 1977. Lewis had also covered many country classics earlier in his career. There is currently a grassroots effort to get Jerry Lee Lewis inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame.

Really good to see, whether you are a fan of his country classics or his slam-bang rock and roll smashes, that the Killer hasn’t been “killed”. Hopefully there’s still many more years left for him.

I certainly wish Jerry Lee the best of luck, but this idea that all these artists in their 80s who’ve suffered strokes, heart attacks, etc., really want to get back on the road, on stage, in the studio–strikes me as a bit dubious. I have to suspect that in many cases, it’s the people behind or on the sides of the artist who have a vested interest in pushing the artist to keep the brand going up to the last possible moment.

Hey Lucky,
I Totally get your point, and in general agree. But in this case, it really is Jerry wanting to get back into music. I somewhat know his sister Linda Gail, just saw her play in Nashville and she told us all that Jerry has been bored lately and when that happens he usually cures it by jumping into another record or some live performances. She was with him during his rehab therapy and she said he really pushed himself hard, as he wants to make more music.

I first met Jery Lee in Whitehaven, a suburb of Memphis. I was a kid buying arrows at a Western Auto store in Whitehaven shopping center, just a quarter mile from Elvis’ mansion.
Anyway, while I am looking at arrows, Jerry Lee comes in. His hair is a total blond mess. I asked him what happened and he said he’d just washed and couldn’t do anything with it. After a good laugh I told him I was a fan and really love his music. I am 72 yrs old and still listen to Jerry Lee every day. I really love his “Who’s Gonna Play This Old Piano. So glad to hear he is on the men. The Killer Rocks On.

Hey Killer, glad to know your recovery is going well for you. I’ve never got to meet you but I’ve always wanted to. As a piano player myself, I’ve been blessed throughout my life having played for a couple of country music artists. One of whom, a good friend, Billy “Crash” Craddock and I loved when “Crash” would talk about “the good ole days”. All good stuff Killer!! Lol. Maybe if my luck holds out I’ll finally get to shake your hand. I’m saying a prayer for your health and the anticipation of a long over due wait for your induction into the Country Music Hall of Fame. Hammers away Killer,,, Steve C. Ohio…

Why bring it up? It’s a fairly large stain on the man’s reputation wouldn’t you agree?
And this comments section isn’t only for blow in pedo lovers such as yourself, it’s for those with an interest in saving country music.

I first listened to Jerry Lee when I was growing up at the ages of 5 to 17 years old and I loved it and bought his album’s. I saw him in 1968 or ’69 in Shreveport, La. It was fantastic & fun, gospel & his hits in Rock & roll.
Get well Soon Jerry Lee and “Long Live the King”…
