Jon Pardi Reveals Details for New Album “Heartache Medication”
You’ll have to wait all the way until September 27th to hear Jon Pardi’s new record Heartache Medication in its entirety. But we now have the track list, cover art, and songwriting contributors for the new record, and there’s a lot of interesting stuff to unpack.
Along with Pardi himself co-writing eight of the fourteen tracks of Heartache Medication, other notable songwriting contributors include the legendary Dean Dillon, know for his expansive work with George Strait, Jeff Hyde who is a regular contributor for Eric Church, Highwoman Natalie Hemby, Josh Thompson, and Eric Church and Miranda Lambert contributing on the same song called “Don’t Blame It On Whiskey,” which Pardi sings with Lauren Alaina. Remember a few years back, Eric Church made a crack about performers coming from the singing competition world, and Miranda snapped back. It appears now amends have been made.
Jon Pardi co-produced Heartache Medication for Capitol Nashville, with co-producer Bart Butler returning to work with Pardi, and Ryan Gore also joining to co-produce. The title track and first single from the record has already been received well (listen below), and will be released to country radio as a single on June 3rd.
“I named it ‘Heartache Medication’ because it talks about sad topics, but it makes you feel good at the same time,” Jon Pardi said in a press conference on Wednesday from his barn in Nashville. “I’m really proud of it. I’m really proud of all the session players, the songwriters that delivered great songs. I wrote half the record and Nashville stepped in and wrote the other half, and I’m very proud of that. I think everybody’s going to love it.”
Universal Music Group Nashville chairman and CEO Mike Dungan said that Jon Pardi stressed a lot over the making of the new record and how to follow up the surprising and under-reported success of his last album, 2016’s Platinum-selling California Sunrise. He ultimately delivered an album that both Pardi and Mike Dungan say is even more country than the last one. “…We have a record that is going to go on in history and be talked about for a long time,” Dungan says.
Jon Pardi has been a focal point of bringing more twang and traditional style to the mainstream for the last few years. The 33-year-old launched two #1’s and four total Top 5 songs from California Sunrise, and the album regularly appears near the top of the country albums charts even three years after its release. Pardi is one of the few performers who can find fans across the country music divide, pulling in both traditional and contemporary listeners from across the independent and mainstream realm.

Interesting to see Driver Williams’ name pop up here. He’s Eric Church’s lead guitarist, but I’ve never even seen a songwriting credit on one of his albums.

Awesome! Been noticing Josh Thompson popping up on with some songwriting credits on some fairly good mainstream songs. Wonder what he is up too I always thought he has some potential.

Josh Thompson is a great singer and songwriter. Always loved his music and his very laid back personality. Hope one day he can get another major label deal.

I’m not judging the song, but I’m getting tired of “do or don’t blame whiskey” songs. I hope this album isn’t filled with nothing but drinking tunes.

6 of the 14 have drinking related titles so… I like a good drinking song but one or two on an album should be enough to get the point across.

These cats that write these things should listen to a Corb Lund or James McMurtry album sometime and realize that there are more topics than love and booze.

No “boots” songs & not enough alcohol songs.
Lauren Alaina…well…a “country” singer on a country label is better than a pop/dance/rock-singer.
Mike Dungan oozes wisdom…lol.

We went from tailgates and back roads to everything whiskey and highways. Oh and look a song telling people why he’s so country. I hope Kacey is almost done writing her new album because I’m tired.

I’m pretty certain the Eric/Miranda song was written when they were on tour back together in 2010. Before the comment about tv talent shows was made.

Maybe. Wonder though. Seems like I read somewhere they made amends. If the song has been kicking around since 2010, makes me a little nervous that no one has recorded it (including Church or Lambert).

I don’t think that should make you nervous. “I Just Wanna Dance With You” (Prine, Cook) sat for almost 15 years before getting cut by George Strait

Good for Lauren Alaina singing this single with Jon. He said some time ago he was begging Miranda to record this with him. Maybe she thought it was too close to the single with Jason.( Who knows the reason she turned it down) If Friends Eric Church and Miranda Lambert (two of my favorites) had a hand in writing this single I’m ready to hear it! Think theres more to come!

Liked Jeff Hyde’s recording of “Old Hat” on his album. Can’t wait to hear Pardi’s version

If you were to judge a book by its cover, or an album by its track listing, this looks like lowest common denominator stuff.
It’s like redneck bingo in here –
-whisky
-tequila
-hats
-cowboys
-country
we’re just a tailgate or a backroad away from a win

“Love her like she’s leaving” is going to be far and away the best track on the album. Calling it now. That just sounds like a hit.

Or it could end up like “She Ain’t In It,” which I feel was his best single so far, which did not chart well because it was (I assume) too country for mainstream country radio.

Jon Pardi, Miranda Lambert, Eric Church and a bunch of people I have never heard of….they all suck.
Trigger, we got to get back to Shelton and such.

Well, if you’ve never heard of Dean Dillon, that’s on you.
If the “Shelton” you refer to is Hank3, the guy has literally done nothing in half a decade, and any time he as much utters a word in public, I cover it. I’m not sure we need to get back to Shelton, I think Shelton needs to get back to us.
Luckily though, there a lot of other great artists out there right now. If you like Hank 3, you’ll probably like Ian Noe who I just reviewed. It’s not 2012 anymore. But when Shelton decides to return, I’ll be here waiting for him.

I love Ian Noe. Been bragging on the guy for 2 years now.
And no, Shelton has sit on the sideline for the past few years because of bullshit. Utter politically correct bullshit.
I look at it like this Trigger. I have been a big supporter of yours for years. I know you have to grow the business and hold no ill towards you for building your business up. But I like my music a little rougher around the edges. And if that shit is even remotely played on the radio, I won’t touch it. It sucks. Hell, I think Chris Stapleton is a joke.
As far as Dean Dillon is concerned, I know exactly who he is. Never was a big George Straight fan…and it got worse when the started calling him King George…there is only one king and it is George by God Jones.
And to end this, the original comment wasn’t aimed towards you. Again, I understand you have to cover certain things, not only because your business is called saving country music, but you have to keep the lights on. It was more aimed toward the folks who run in and comment I love Miranda. I love Eric, they are true country music stars. They are the greatest…Miranda is a living legend…the greatest female country singer of all time. I’ve seen it said here. You’ve seen it said here. Miranda Lambert is a joke. Just plan awful. Can’t hold a candle to Sarah Shook. And that is just today. Miranda is an outlaw….bullshit. Sarah Shook might just stab you….and I mean that as a great compliment towards Sarah. She is a badass and doesn’t need to fill a video in Ho shorts with a gasoline can.
As far as Jon Pardi, I’m sorry Trigger, but I’ll pass.

No worries Hellbilly, I totally understand that Jon Pardi and some of the other artists I may talk about here are not for everyone. But I do believe that what’s going on in the mainstream is important too, and if Pardi and others are helping to keep Florida Georgia Line, Sam Hunt, and Thomas Rhett at bay, more power to them.

Pardi simply sounds like the AIDS looking singer from Florida Georgia line. I always thought “dirt on my boots” was by fgl, so pardi burned his own bridge with me and pissed on the ashes.

The few people who I have played Heartache Medication have enjoyed it. The opening of the song is straight up Country Music.
