The first time I ever saw Mo Pitney perform and wondered if he might be the one to help put country music back on the right path, it was on Larry’s Country Diner. The first time I saw The Church Sisters capture divinity in their rendition of “Homecoming,” it was on Larry’s Country Diner.

It’s hard to believe it has been six years and over 100 episodes since the RFD-TV music show first came on the air, but since its debut it has risen right up there with The Marty Stuart Show, Music City Roots, and a select few others for places to go searching for the talent that still embodies the true spirit of country music, and hasn’t forgotten about all the greats still around singing and playing country the way it was intended to be.

Speaking to the success and patronage of Larry’s Country Diner, the show is about to take a big step forward in the Nashville community. Construction will soon begin on a 6,700 square foot, 135-seat restaurant and event space that will act as a full-service diner, a music venue, and a gift shop to give a real-life representation to the Larry’s Country Diner TV set. The groundbreaking is set to happen on Wednesday, September 16th at 7734 Highway 70 South, Nashville, TN (near Exit 196 on I-40 West), in the Bellevue area of the city. The new facility is scheduled to be open in the spring of 2016.

All the cast of the show will be there for the groundbreaking ceremony, including “Sheriff” Jimmy Capps who regularly accompanies the musical guests on acoustic guitar, and host Larry Black who recently was forced to take some time off from the show after being involved in a major ATV accident. The accident left Larry with two punctured lungs, and a broken back among other injuries. Guest hosts filled in for tapings during Black’s recovery.

A long-time DJ, Larry Black is also the owner of Larry’s Country Diner through his company Gabriel Communications, which started out by creating “Country Family Reunion” videos. Gabriel Communications will also be the owner of the new Bellevue facility.

Larry’s Country Diner airs Saturday nights on RFD-TV at 11 p.m. ET / 10 p.m. CT and Sunday evenings at 7 p.m. ET / 6 p.m. CT to an estimated 1.6 million viewers each month. Upcoming musical guests include Joey + Rory on September 19th, Carl Jackson/Orthophonic Joy on September 28th, and Moe Bandy with guest host Bill Anderson on October 10th.

While many country music outlets continue to shy away from upcoming artists and aging legends, Larry’s Country Diner has made its name around them. And its success shows that there’s still many people who want to hear true country music, and get a chance to see them in a warm setting.
