Last Rites of Ransom Pride Movie

Kris Kristofferson Dwight Yoakam Last Rites of Ransom Pride Film MovieFilm was a huge element to the original Outlaw Country movement, with people like Willie Nelson and Kris Kristofferson becoming outright leading men stars in films like Barbarossa and Songwriter. But in the last couple of decades the film cameras, and guns, have been silent. Until now. . .

Last Rites of Ransom Pride is a good old fashioned cutthroat shoot em up Western film set in 1910, starring Dwight Yoakam as “Reverend Pride,” and also features Kris Kristofferson among others (see full cast here). Here’s a blurb about the film:

“Lizzy Caplan plays a young woman who brings Ransom Pride (Scott Speedman) back to Glory, Texas, for a burial. Along the way, she is menaced by Yoakam’s murderous reverend, Kristofferson’s “savage outlaw,” and bounty hunters played by W. Earl Brown (Deadwood) and Jason Priestley. Peter Dinklage plays a shotgun-wielding dwarf who protects the woman alongside Ransom’s younger brother (played by Jon Foster of Door in the Floor.) Most of the action is meant to take place on the Texas-Mexican border.

The screenplay was written by the forgotten Outlaw Ray Wylie Hubbard, who also wrote the soundtrack and can be seen here talking about the film and performing a song from it:

Like Hubbard talks about above, the movie was shot in Canada to help get the fundage together.

There is no release date as of yet from this film. According to the film’s website, this will be the first ever downloadable premier of a major motion picture, and you can pre-order it now HERE.

An interesting side note: Gary Busey and Texas country singer Jack Ingram shot a teaser for the movie back in June of 2007 with Ray Wylie Hubbard, (click here for more info), but neither made the cast for the motion picture.
