Mark Chesnutt Hospitalized, Has Emergency Heart Surgery

We were all hoping that Mark Chesnutt was past his recent health woes, but this weekend he experienced a major setback. After suffering what is being described as a “heart health issue” on Sunday evening, June 16th, Chesnutt was hospitalized and had emergency quadruple bypass surgery. He has cancelled his upcoming shows indefinitely.

“It is with a heavy heart that I announce the cancellation of my upcoming shows,” Chesnutt said in a statement. “I send my love and gratitude to my family and friends, the band and fans for your understanding, prayers and support, and look forward to seeing you all again soon at a honky tonk near you.”

Chesnutt had a full calendar of shows scheduled for this summer, with his next show set to happen on Friday, June 21st in Lake Charles, Louisiana at the Grand Event Center. No specific word has been given at this point of just how far out tour dates have been canceled.

Chesnutt was also in the hospital in November of last year for undisclosed reasons, and had to cancel some shows as well. He later took an extended period off the road to address undisclosed underlying health concerns.

To my family, friends, fans and the country music community… Many of you who know me well, know that I have been struggling with a battle that I’ve fought to overcome for many years on my own. Now after some extreme health issues I’ve recently experienced the time has come. The fight is over. I’ve made the decision, to take the time to get healthy,” Chesnutt said at the time.

Mark Chesnutt also had to cancel a run of shows in 2021 for a back issue that required surgery.

Saving Country Music saw Mark Chesnutt perform at the Two Step Inn in April, and he looked and sounded great. The hope was that he was finally over his health issues. Hopefully he can recover from his latest health setback and get back out on the road.
