Marty Stuart Announces Big Tour w/ Steve Miller Band

Marty Stuart and His Fabulous Superlatives will have a big year in 2019, new album or not. Along with Stuart acting as the main spirit animal and tour guide in the upcoming 8-part Ken Burns Country Music Documentary series in September on PBS, he’s just announced an extended 34-date tour with the Steve Miller Band this summer to go along with his own solo tour dates this spring.

Though it may seem like a strange pairing on the surface, remember Marty Stuart is still currently touring behind his latest record Way Out West, which tracks the lineage of country music on the West Coast from the Bakersfield Sound to the psychedelic influences of the 60’s and 70’s—influences that Steve Miller had his own dalliance with back in the day when he first formed the Steve Miller Band in San Francisco.

Marty Stuart and His Fabulous Superlatives spent a large chunk of 2018 opening for Chris Stapleton, and apparently developed a taste for playing in front of larger crowds than they can draw on their own. It’s not a bad way to get the Marty Stuart experience in front of folks, because pound for pound, he’s one of the best live country acts out there. Stuart’s tour schedule also include the March 27th “Country Music: A Celebration of the Film by Ken Burns” event that will act as the launching pad for the documentary PBS is calling the anchor of their 2019 fall season.
