Marty Stuart May Have New TV Show On The Way
Time and distance have only made the heart grow fonder for the work Marty Stuart did on the RFD-TV-based music presentation The Marty Stuart Show between 2008 and 2014. Some 156 original shows aired from the series which featured Stuart and his backing band The Fabulous Superlatives and Eddie Stubbs as announcer, along with many special guests over the years, including country legends that would go on to pass away, marking The Marty Stuart Show as one of their final appearances.
āThe mission statement there was to put our arms around the culture of traditional country music inside the walls of Nashville before it completely disappeared off the edge of planet Earth. And we accomplished that,” Stuart said in 2017. But since the airing of the final episode, folks have been wondering if there would ever be any more, especially with the cult status the show enjoys still to this day in reruns. But in 2017, Marty let everyone know definitively he was moving on from the program.
“At the end of the 156 episodes and six or seven seasons, you know what? Mission accomplished. Letās move on … That particular show is in the books now. Itās in history books.”
But Marty Stuart also left the door open for a return to television, saying, āI love TV, and I think thereās another television show in development, probably for another network. But we are absolutely going to go back to the TV cameras in the next couple years, I think.ā
“Absolutely going back” is a pretty strong statement, and we may have just received our first indication that a new TV show is in the works. According to the newspaper in Marty Stuart’s hometown of Philadelphia, Mississippi The Neshoba Democrat, he was in town earlier this month (March 5th) shooting for “his new TV show.” Though there’s no other details about what the show may be called, the nature of it, if it’s just a one-off thing at the moment or part of a bigger series like The Marty Stuart Show, the news is promising.
Filming reportedly went down at the Ellis Theatre, which is part of the Congress of Country Music Marty Stuart is currently developing in the heart of Philadelphia with plans to eventually open a 50,000 sq. ft. complex to house his some 20,000 country music artifacts, as well as classrooms and performances spaces. The Ellis Theatre built in 1926 is a centerpiece of the project. Phase 1 of Marty’s plan is to open the renovated theater for performances. In October of 2020, renovations were said to be underway.
Saving Country Music reached out to the Marty Stuart camp for more information, but lips are tight about the project at the moment. Stay tuned.
Marty Stuart announced this week he has a new 20-song project on the way called Songs I Sing in the Dark.

This is great news for Marty Stuart fans as well as for ‘real’ country music lovers. Can’t wait to see and hear any kind of TV program from Marty. The ‘old’ TV series was entertaining and is truly missed. I am planning to visit Marty’s Congress of Country Music museum when it opens. Thanks for the update!

sure wish they would release the entire series on Blu-Ray or a downloadable high def stream for purchase.maybe one day, so whatever direction he decides to take for a new tv show, this is great news, Marty has been passionate about sharing,preserving and carrying on the archival history of Country and Western & Bluegrass and always gives 110% .looking forward to seeing what he has in store

Speaking of TV – anyone have The Circle Network on their cable package yet?? We were supposed to get it last summer…. Still don’t have it.
I know I can receive it through apps but just curious if others get it through their traditional linear Cable bundle?? (We have Frontier services in New England)

It’s being fed through local channels so you have to look there, not cable plans. They also just announced they’re getting picked up on Peacock for streaming.

Local channels that aren’t cable? I’m confused, are you saying it’s on like local public access channels?
I’ll have to do some investigating – but over a year ago I was informed that like RFD-TV, Circle would be available on a premium cable channel (like a channel in the 500s)

I don’t work for The Circle Network, and I’ve never had cable in my adult life. What I can tell you is The Circle Network is available about a thousand different ways at this point, including on local over-the-air digital channels, like the 7-1’s, 7-2’s, 7’3’s. Look it up.

Its included on Samsung tv if you have a Samsung Smart tv. Its also accesible in my area via a digital antenna. Get an antenna, turn off your cable and you just might have Circle Network. Its everywhere.

I live in Huntsville Al,and I have the Media Com,cable TV pkg and I get the Circle out of Nashville on channel 104 it appears to be in the same network of local channel 48 WAFF TV

Also, is RFD-TV still broadcasted nationally?? I looked into it last year & was told by Cox & Frontier that the station was completely dropped in Connecticut. Has it turned into a local affiliate station or something? I miss it

RFD-TV is still on many cable systems and they have a streaming service at http://www.watchrfdtv.com You can also get it on Sling if you add the Heartland package.

If you have a smart TV, Circle is offered on Pluto TV, a free app. The only drawback is you can’t DVR anything there; I wish Hulu would add Circle or RFD.

Since this “filming” happened on March 5th (three weeks ago), you’d think the local paper would have done a little better follow up on the event. Then again, it is Philadelphia, MS.

Well, it could also be that the Marty Stuart camp is trying to keep this somewhat under wraps at the moment, or they want some info out there to tease folks but not give them the full enchilada yet as they finalize details and contracts, etc. I reached out them and they weren’t talking.

It’s there any word on whether The Fabulous Superlatives are still part of Marty’s future? I had tickets to see them last November here in Georgia but the Superlatives were scratched and it ended up being Marty and Connie Smith doing an acoustic show. Was really an honor to see two Hall of Fame legends perform that evening, but I did miss Kenny, Harry and Chris. Amazing band, who I hope have many years ahead together, but lately it doesn’t appear to be very promising.

Something is up with his website. It’s live, but has kinda been redesigned and I do not see the Fab’s prominently displayed as they used to be.
I hope Trigger can do some digging to see what, if anything, is going on.
I do know one thing. There was no band better than Marty and the Fab’s. None. And that is not just me saying it. Maybe this Covid crap has caused a change of direction.
Having said that, I support him all the way regardless.

Hey Trig, any word on the question above about Marty and the Superlatives? I noticed he has solo download songs coming out as part of a new “album’ and some tour dates don’t list the Superlatives, nor does his website. There has been no word of them recording together in 2020. They have been together 19 years…

Just in the last couple of weeks some new gigs have come up that are being promoted as with the Fabulous Superlatives, include opening for Jason Isbell on October 8th in Mississippi, and I heard from someone recently that saw him play live (sorry, forgetting where). So he may do some live shows solo, but I don’t think the Superlatives are done, though Chris Scruggs may not be with them for certain shows, so there may be some flux in the lineup. I’m still trying to get a definitive answer.

I can hardly wait till Saturday night so I can watch Marty Stuart’s show. Can’t see how anyone could be better. I love every member of the band. Wish some of that talent would rub off on me. Every one I know loves Marty and Connie of course if they don’t I’ll part company with them.

Just saw Marty and the Superlatives at Penns Peak October 30 2021 it was a great show and always watch the show on Saturday night and Sunday night or RFD TV missed Apostle Paul but professor Chris was a great replacement

I drove more than 2 hours to see Marty and the Superlatives Oct 17, 2021, perform where Woodstock happened in NY state so many years ago! First concert Iād been to or performed in since Nov 2019.

My husband and I also can hardly wait for the Marty Stuart Show on Saturday nights. If we have to be away we ALWAYS tape it. So glad there is something going to happen with another show. Forever fans!
