Marty Stuart Signs With New Record Label Ahead of Tour

For those wondering what Marty Stuart has been up to and when he might release new music, there is some big news. Announced on Friday (8-12), Marty Stuart has signed to the European label Snakefarm Records. No, it isn’t owned by Ray Wylie Hubbard. Snakefarm is a subsidiary of the label SpineFarm Records, whose parent company is the Universal Music Group. The announcement comes as Marty is getting ready to tour Europe, and hopefully, announce new music.

Spinefarm Records is mostly known as a heavy metal label, but its Snakefarm imprint has lots of ties to American music and country specifically. Along with being the record label for Texas music artist Austin Meade, the label is also the UK and/or European home for Whiskey Myers, Marcus King, and even major label artists such as Eric Church and Kip Moore. Often country artists that don’t exactly fit the pop country mold do quite well over in Europe, and sometimes even better than in the United States. Marty Stuart certainly qualifies in that class.

“I like the idea of joining forces with Snakefarm. I am intrigued by the global mindset and the aura of musical integrity that surrounds the brand. I look forward to a long line of thrilling musical escapades in the days ahead,” Stuart states just a week or so away from embarking on his European tour (see dates below).

The announcement comes five years after Marty Stuart released his highly-regarded album Way Out West. Since then he’s tinkered with some re-releases and other projects, but fans have been salivating for some new music. In March of 2021, Stuart announced a song project called Songs I Sing in the Dark, which was supposed to be a 20-song endeavor where he released a cover song each month for 20 months. However, Stuart stopped just a few songs in with no explanation. Perhaps the deal with Snakefarm changed his calculus.

“As long-time supporters of the great man and his music, it’s with much pride that we welcome Marty Stuart to Snakefarm,” says Dante Bonutto of the label. “The intention with the label has always been to shine a spotlight on the very best in roots music, its sacred traditions, and values, and when it comes to an artist who lives, breathes, loves, and protects these values, Marty Stuart is in a class of his own. We look forward to a long and exciting journey ahead, and we’re aware that we’ll have to spectacularly up our game on the fashion front!”

Marty Stuart also remains busy trying to get his Congress of Country Music in Philadelphia, Mississippi off the ground. When he played his long-running Late Night Jam at the Ryman Auditorium earlier this summer, Stuart also held a symposium for the industry to raise awareness of the project that will ultimately house his some 20,000 pieces of country music memorabilia (see below). The hope is the first phase will open soon, with Philadelphia’s historic 500-seat Ellis Theater set to start hosting performances in the coming months.

Stay tuned for when Marty Stuart might be releasing new music.
