Miranda Lambert Deserves the 2018 Hall of Fame Artist-In-Residence
Proving once again that Miranda Lambert is the independent-minded artist with mainstream impact that deserves to be the 4th face on the Country Music Mt. Rushmore, she was just named the Country Music Hall of Fame’s Artist-In-Residence for 2018. Beyond the shows she will play at the Hall of Fame for intimate audiences, it puts Lambert in an elite class of country music performers, including Cowboy Jack Clement, Earl Scruggs, Tom T. Hall, Guy Clark, Kris Kristofferson, Jerry Douglas, Vince Gill, Buddy Miller, Connie Smith, Kenny Rogers, Ricky Skaggs, Alan Jackson, Rosanne Cash, and last year’s Artist-In-Residence, Jason Isbell.
As you can see from the pedigree, Artist-In-Residence beneficiaries are often ones who put art and songwriting first. The honor has also been seen previously as a precursor to full induction to the Hall of Fame, which was true for Jack Clement, Kenny Rogers, Ricky Skaggs, and Alan Jackson. Obviously Miranda Lambert has much more service time to fulfill before she would be eligible for the Hall of Fame proper, but it does mean that the organization and the CMA recognize her contributions to the genre, and are willing to reward them.
“We’re talking about someone who has been the CMA’s top female vocalist a record seven times, selling millions of albums and scoring hit after hit while retaining absolute artistic conviction and credibility,” says Hall of Fame Museum CEO Kyle Young. “She writes her heart and sings her truth, and her truth resonates. We are honored that she is this museum’s 15th Artist-In-Residence, the latest in a line of greats that includes some of Miranda’s own musical heroes, like Guy Clark, Tom T. Hall, Kris Kristofferson, and Buddy Miller.”
First established in 2003, part of being named Artist-In-Residence means Miranda will perform at CMA Theater at the Hall of Fame on Wednesday, Sept. 19 and Wednesday, Sept. 26. Both shows will begin at 8 p.m., and tickets go on sale Friday, July 13 at 10:00 a.m. CDT at countrymusichalloffame.org. Ticket sales are limited to four tickets per transaction on a first come, first served basis and are non-refundable. Expect it to sell out immediately.
“The history that the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum holds is so important,” says Miranda Lambert. “It’s truly an honor to be named Artist-In-Residence for the museum. I’m thankful for this place, where our music can continue to be cherished, and I’m thrilled to be among the esteemed artists who have been honored by this designation.”
What will be next for Miranda, Grand Ole Opry induction?

What a nice honor for her. I’m glad to see her continue to rise above the days when she was just Blake Shelton’s wife.

I’m happy for Miranda as I’m a huge fan of hers. IMO she stands far above her mainstream peers – both male and female – for commitment to the country tradition, excellence and honesty in songwriting, leadership in promoting lesser known but worthy artists, and willingness to put her own faults on display. I admire her greatly as an artist.

I always thought that if she played the Opry more regularly (like Carrie Underwood, for example) that she would eventually be invited to become a member. We shall see.

I think the Opry miss its chance with Miranda. I would be very surprised if she even wanted to be a member of the Opry after they waited so long to invite her. a lot of people don’t play there regularly and are asked to become members that are far less accomplished than she is

So happy for Miranda! She is the youngest artist and the third female to be chosen. Miranda is my favorite. She truly loves music and devotes her life to it.

I don’t think in the country community she was ever “just Blake Shelton’s wife”. I think she always stood on her own as Miranda Lambert.

I think it was more like Blake Shelton is Miranda Lambert’s husband… he’s a far less serious and introspective artists. he’s entertaining, but in a much different less satisfying way.

She sucks. Whiney, boring music her father writes. This was bought for her like her Best Female Artist award every year.

So you’re saying artists like Reba bought their awards? Because you can’t say Miranda buys her awards and everyone else has earned theirs. If she was able to buy her awards/honors then all artists must be buying their awards so why criticize Miranda when everyone is doing it…. if you put aside your hate for her and looked at her work you’d realize she has more then earned this honor.

Do i here jealousy in your remark. She writes her songs, she is more popular than Blake ever was. She passed brooks and Dunn in awards she has won.
She has a better show than Blake. He is hanging on to Gwen for her ties to. HOLLYWOOD. Miranda is younger than Gwen and Blake says Gwen rescued him and that is the same thing he said Miranda did. He cheated on his first wife, cjeated on Miranda and will cheat on Gwen.

Oh no. what sets her apart from Carrie is she and Reba can come out sing with just a guitar and make you feel and live the song..Carries all start out Regular pitch and finishes in a scream. All sounds the same that you loose what its about.

@ADJ – Carrie is a member therefore she plays the Opry to fullfil her obligation as a member. You have to be invited to play…can’t just show up! I am sure that Miranda would love to be asked and certainly deserves it!!

I think that Miranda is definitely one of the best songwriters in country music. You ALWAYS feel her songs- every emotion. Starting from her first album when she fought to write her own songs (something many weren’t allowed b/c new artists were required to use Nash writers), I have loved how she embraces the past yet made her own lane. Congrats to Miranda!!

”…………while retaining absolute artistic conviction and credibility,” says Hall of Fame Museum CEO Kyle Young. …
This is tantamount to an admission by the CMA that the label-driven / youth driven ,’commericial wing ‘ of the industry has little-to- no ‘ artistic conviction and credibility ‘ any mor , even though its apparent that mainstream listeners don’t know or give a damn about that fact .

Intrigued by the Country gal who belted out “Gunpowder & Led” and “Crazy Ex-girlfriend” but became a major fan after hearing “All Kinds of Kinds.” The way she sang that song and used her voice, and so much sensitivity in each word. She has an amazing voice that seems to sing every note just the right way, with 100% heart in each word. I also think fans today are appreciating someone who is a singer-songwriter as well as someone who is known (only or mainly) for their voice. Dierks Bently said it best a few years ago, that “Miranda is a singer-songwriter at heart”.
The consecutive years she has won Vocalist of the Year is record-breaking as the article quoted. But before she was seen by all in music as being at the forefront of Country, she was quietly, I think, gaining the respect of the Country Music est. with all of her albums after the first being nominated and most winning the coveted ‘Album of the Year” at the ACM and CMA awards.
As many on here have said, very well deserved. So glad to see this extremely talented gal (finally) get the recognition she deserved, and deserves now.
