Mo Pitney Plays With Time Jumpers, Has New Music Coming

When you’re putting your list together of country traditionalists and purists popping through in the mainstream, make sure you don’t forget to include Mo Pitney. When he released his debut album Behind This Guitar in 2016 and even before, he had people singing his praises for his songwriting that reminded you of simpler times with his plainspoken language and old soul disposition. Mo’s popularity never quite materialized like it did for fellow mainstream traditionalist Jon Pardi who came up about the same time, but Pitney still possesses a great hand for songwriting, and a smooth country voice.

On Monday evening (11-25), Mo Pitney showed up to 3rd and Lindsley in Nashville for the weekly congregation of the country music supergroup The Time Jumpers, which includes Vince Gill, steel player Paul Franklin, fiddler Kenny Sears, Joe Spivey, Ranger Doug, and whomever else they can rope into appearing each week, which this week included Mo for the first time ever. Many members of Pitney’s family were in attendance as well to see him jump on stage to sing a couple of songs with the band, including “Last Thing I Needed First Thing This Morning” written by Gary P. Nunn, and recorded by Willie Nelson, and most recently Chris Stapleton.

Most importantly, Time Jumpers frontman Kenny Sears announced that Mo Pitney will have new music finally coming out in January, at least that’s the plan at the moment. In June of 2018 Pitney released a video for his song “Come Do A Little Life With Me,” and said then “Prepare for new music to come soon.” Pitney fans have been waiting patiently since, and it sounds like they could be rewarded come 2020.

Also appearing on the night with the Time Jumpers was Memphis native Wendy Moten, who has spent most of her career as a backup singer, but had a R&B hit back in 1992 with “Come Out of the Rain.” She has sung backup for Time McGraw and Faith Hill, and most recently has been performing traditional country with the Time Jumpers, and on the Grand Ole Opry on multiple occasions, covering songs from Jeannie Seely and Patsy Cline.

With the way more traditional-sounding country music is currently on the rise in the mainstream, it could be the right time for Mo Pitney to relaunch his career. Stay tuned for more information.
