Newest Additions to Saving Country Music’s Top 25 Current Playlist (#30)

The newest additions to the Saving Country Music Top 25 Playlist don’t include a lot of boot scooters, but it may contain some of the best-written songs released all year. As we near the end of the year, it’s time to start considering the best songs and albums of all of 2018, and who will comprise the candidates for Album of the Year and Song of the Year. Some of them could be represented in the latest playlist update.

The newest additions start off with the superbly-written “Death & Life” from Jamie Lin Wilson, off her latest record Jumping Over Rocks. She definitely tapped into the Guy Clark inspiration for this one. “Cheyenne” by the Pistol Annies may be one of the best songs any three of the ladies from the supergroup has written, and it also makes the list. And no songs seems as timely and true as The Steel Woods‘ title track off their upcoming album “Old News.” It’s going to be a long wait until January 18th when the new album is finally released.

A couple of other important songs come from folks you may have never heard of, including Brian Callihan‘s pre-album single “Living Room.” The chorus of this song is just pure traditional country goodness, and it illustrates great songwriting. Nick Dittmeier and the Sawdusters have a new album out called All Damn Day, and the Southern rock vibe of “Walking On Water” makes the cut. Colter Wall‘s selection on the playlist has also been freshened to the opening track of his new album, “Plain To Be Plainsman.”

The Saving Country Music Top 25 Playlist primarily lives on Spotify, but is also available for those who use Google Playand on Apple Music thanks to Country Exclusive. For those who don’t stream music, you can still find the song recommendations in list form below.
