Newest Adds to Saving Country Music’s Top 25 Current Playlist (#109)

The Saving Country Music Top 25 Playlist is built to keep you informed on all the best songs and albums coming out right here, right now in country and roots music. It’s available on most all streaming formats (see below), or you can just use the song, artist, and album recommendations to find something new to listen to. New songs just added.

Newest Additions:

John Fullbright – “Stars” – Song of the Year candidate here. Fullbright has been playing this song live for years, but we finally get a studio version on his new album Liar. What Fullbright does on this one song is something that other performers fail to accomplish on three complete albums.

Billy Strings – “Long Journey Home” – This cooked ol’ world does not deserve Billy Strings. He’s one of the biggest things in live music at the moment, has the “sell out” carrot dangling right there in front of him, and what he decides do to is record a traditional bluegrass record for his next project featuring his father. Me / and / Dad is out November 18th.

Colton Venner – “Last Living Local” – Great song here that so many who live in tourist towns or even rural areas being overrun by development can easily relate to. Art explaining life in ways mere words often fail to.

James Hand – “Master of Depression” – James Hand left us in 2020, but a new 10th Anniversary release of his album Lesson in Depression includes a few previously unheard tracks, including a new version of one of his signature songs. “Lesson in Depression” has been recorded by Charley Crockett and others, but “Master of Depression” was the original version of the song before the message was softened.

Ashley McBryde – “Bonfire at Tina’s” – Ashley McBryde Presents: Lindeville is the surprise album of 2022, and deserves your attention. Though all the songs from the set are worth highlighting, “Bonfire at Tina’s” is the emotional apogee of a small town full of frustrated people expending it all in a great exhalation.

Melissa Carper – “Ramblin’ Soul” – Combining the vintage flair that Melissa Carper brings to her music with the bygone sound of the Chris Scruggs console steel guitar results in country gold for the title track of Carper’s new album out on November 18th.

Kendell Marvel – “Hell Bent on Hard Times” – Kendell Marvel has all those “Outlaw” qualities to his image and music in spades. But ultimately what he is at his core is a songwriter, and he proves his gift for words and music with this well-written track with an important realization and message.

Colter Wall – “Cypress Hills and the Big Country” – Written by Colter Wall about southwestern Saskatchewan where he’s from, the new song evokes the native landscape and the expanse of the prairie, and the flora and fauna of the region running along the Coulee into Alberta. It’s quintessential Colter Wall Cowboy and Western.

The Shootouts w/ Marty Stuart – “Better Things To Do” – If one of the things that gets your motor running is takeoff Telecaster guitar, then waste no time piping up the new track from The Shootouts that also features Marty Stuart on mandolin. Ohio’s official throwback traditional country honky tonk band has a new album on the way called Stampede on February 24th, 2023.
