Newest Adds to Saving Country Music’s Top 25 Current Playlist (#138)

Imagine taking to the internet to complain how bad country music is today when we have such an embarrassment of riches from the independent side of country music sitting right under our noses. 2024 just keeps getting better and better for top tier songs.

The Saving Country Music Top 25 Playlist is built to keep you informed on all the best songs and albums coming out right here, right now in country and roots music. It’s available on most all streaming formats (see below), or you can just use the song, artist, and album recommendations to find something new to listen to. New songs just added.

Newest Additions:

Joe Stamm with Charles Wesley Godwin – “Flower of the Everglades” – Highly-acclaimed, but under-the-radar songwriter and frontman Joe Stamm just released a new 4-song EP called Allegheny recorded with Charles Wesley Godwin’s band The Allegheny High. The crown jewel is this collaboration with Godwin himself telling a story from Southern latitudes. Hopefully this moment gives Joe Stamm the wider national recognition he and the Joe Stamm Band deserve.

The Wilder Blue – “I’m Your Man” – Is there nothing this Texas supergroup can’t do? Getting ready to hit the road opening stadium shows for Luke Combs, The Wilder Blue prove they can get in on reviving the sound and style of ’90s country as well.

Sarah Shook and the Disarmers – “Dogbane” – Only Sarah Shook and the Disarmers can take a foreboding gaze into impending dystopia, and still make it sound so damn good and infectious. River Shook’s knack with melody is virtually unmatched in country music. “Dogbane” is from the new album Revelations.

Kimmi Bitter – “I Can’t Unlove You” – Kimmi Bitter has been stunning us with classic country singles for a couple of years now, drawing comparisons with Patsy Cline. But she proved with her recent release Old School that she could do it for an entire album. Perhaps no song is a better example than the stunning “I Can’t Unlove You.”

Pat Reedy – “Should You Ever” – Reedy gets a second track on the playlist with this great song with a swaying, ’50s-era swagger to it that was written for Luke Bell who passed away tragically in 2022. He was still alive but not really talking to any of us here in Nashville,” Reedy says. “I guess it is too late for Luke now, but hopefully it isn’t for someone else.”

John Moreland – “The Future Is Coming Fast” – Moreland’s surprise new album Visitor is a welcomed treat, and a return to the more acoustic and understated approach of the acclaimed albums from earlier in his career. It’s full of songwriting gems, including the opening track that speaks to the succumbing to technology that we all seem to know is coming, but seem to be powerless to stop or even slow down.

Jesse Daniel – “Coming Apart At The Seams” – There are few harder working people in country music than Jesse Daniel, and many of his songs are about working hard, staying honest, and sticking to your guns. He can sing about turning your life around with hard work because that’s what he’s done himself over the last few years as a fast-rising independent country star. New album Countin’ The Miles comes out June 7th.
