Newest Adds to Saving Country Music’s Top 25 Current Playlist (#140)

Memorial Day weekend and the unofficial start of summer is upon us. This is a great time to dive into some of the best country music coming out this season, and to look forward to some great albums in the offing.

The Saving Country Music Top 25 Playlist is built to keep you informed on all the best songs and albums coming out right here, right now in country and roots music. It’s available on most all streaming formats (see below), or you can just use the song, artist, and album recommendations to find something new to listen to. New songs just added.

Newest Additions:

Jamey Johnson – “21 Guns” – Celebrating Memorial Day isn’t all about boat rides on the local reservoir and weenie roasts. It’s a moment to honor the fallen. Leave it to Jamey Johnson to do that better than most with his first official new single in many years. Don’t be surprised if we get news on a new album by Johnson by the end of the year.

49 Winchester – “Fast Asleep” – This song works like all of 49 Winchester’s greatest songs, delivering an emotional wallop at the end of frontman Isaac Gibson’s soulful voice. Gibson says he actually wrote this song when he was 19, but waited until now to release it ahead of their new album Leavin’ This Holler out August 2nd. Strings provided by the Czech National Symphony Orchestra.

The Mavericks – “Overnight Success” – There’s not much better than a song from The Mavericks when they really get a hold of one, and do what The Mavericks do. “Overnight Success” featuring fiddle and accordion reminds you a lot of those excellent older Mavericks country songs from the ’90s. It was co-written between Raul Malo, Rick Trevino, and others, and originally recorded by Trevino in 2001.

Kaitlin Butts – “Roadrunner” – Those who’ve seen Kaitlin Butts live recently will recognize this crowd pleaser and consummate road song. It’s now officially the title track of her upcoming album out June 28th. Meep meep.

Alice Wallace – “Letting It Go” – Those who know about Alice Wallace know she’s perhaps one of the best singers around. Her songwriting isn’t too shabby either, and she combines both her superpowers for this powerful song ahead of her new album Here I Am out June 28th.

Sachin and the Porch – “Drinkin’ For Free” – Super fun song perfect for Memorial Day weekend and summer from a band to keep an eye on out of Austin. Old alt-country vibes from this one in the best of ways.

Presley Haile – “Lone Star State of Mind” – This is your opportunity to get Presley Haile on your radar, because there’s a good chance we’ll be hearing much more from her in years to come. You might recognize this song written by Fred Koller and Pat Alger from a previous version by Nanci Griffith. A great voice, and great steel guitar on this track.

Tylor & the Train Robbers – “Workin’ Hands” – This Idaho-based band always comes with the most thoughtful and wisdom-driven songs that still short nothing on the enjoyment factor. “Workin’ Hands” comes from their new album Hum of the Road out now.
