Newest Adds to Saving Country Music’s Top 25 Current Playlist (#62)

The Saving Country Music Top 25 Playlist is built to keep you informed on all the best songs and albums coming out right here, right now in country and roots music. It’s available on most all streaming formats (see below), or you can just use the song, artist, and album recommendations to find something new to listen to. New songs have just been added.

Newest Additions:

Jonathan Parker – “How ‘Bout That” – Jonathan Parker’s new staunchly traditional country album Broken Hearts and Broken Bones caught some off guard, but those in his native North Carolina have known Parker is one of the best kept secrets in country music for a while now. “How ‘Bout Now” leads off the latest edition of the playlist.

Triston Marez – “Forget About You” – This fast rising Texas country up-and-comer continues to earn worthy praise for formidable singles steeped in country tradition. We’re still waiting for a proper debut album as opposed to a series of singles and EPs. But listening to this young man, there’s no question he’s got the right stuff.

Joe Stamm – “Goodbye, John” – There have been quite a few stabs at writing and releasing Coronavirus-inspired songs over the last couple of months, with some hits, and a lot of misses. But something about the mood and message of this song is perfectly on point. This is a single, but Stamm released a live acoustic record earlier this year as well. RIP John Prine.

Pam Tillis – “Dark Turn of Mind” – On Pam’s first solo record in some 12 years called Looking for a Feeling, she explores a lot of classic rock and old school R&B influences. But on this particular track, it’s straight traditional country. Very cool little tune.

Kyle Nix – “Lightning on the Mountain” – Kyle Nix of the Turnpike Troubadours was the talk of Red Dirt country this week when it was revealed his solo debut album Lightning on the Mountain & Other Short Stories will be released on June 26th. It was proceeded shortly thereafter by this blazing moonshine story song.

Lucas Ebert – “Nashville’s For Losers” – Not exactly what you expect from the title, this traditional country song co-written with Tom Perkins takes an unexpected turn that speaks to the kind of resolve, dedication, and punishment one must take to try and make country music in Music City.

Hot Country Knights (Dierks Bentley) – “Pick Her Up” – Oh hell why not? This trashy single released by Dierks Bentley’s alter ego put Travis Tritt back in the country charts for the first time in years, and if you can’t have a little fun with this, lighten up.

Also of note on the new music front, savant songwriter Zach Bryan has released a surprise new 18-song acoustic record called Elisabeth, and Daniel Romano has released a surprise new country record as well on Bandcamp. Expect coverage of both these records coming soon.
