Newest Adds to Saving Country Music’s Top 25 Current Playlist (#71)
The Saving Country Music Top 25 Playlist is built to keep you informed on all the best songs and albums coming out right here, right now in country and roots music. It’s available on most all streaming formats (see below), or you can just use the song, artist, and album recommendations to find something new to listen to. New songs have just been added.
EDITOR’S NOTE: Due to Google Play being shut down soon and rolled into YouTube, the playlist is no longer being supported on that format. Also, the playlist is no longer officially being supported on Apple Music due to their completely unintuitive playlist building system.
Newest Additions:
Sunny Sweeney – “Body in a Boxcar” – Sunny has a new album coming out on November 13th called Recorded Live at the Machine Shop, and though it includes mostly songs that Sunny has released in the past, this is the first proper recording of this honky-tonk scorcher fans are getting to hear. Hold on tight because it’s a fun one.
Rachel Brooke – “The Loneliness in Me” – The Queen of Underground Country is back in all of her glory with her first solo effort in eight years coming out October 23rd, and if the early singles from the record are any indication, it’s cool, it’s country, and it includes that little tinge of Gothic darkness that makes Rachel Brooke unique in the country realm. The title track to the record has just been added to the playlist.
Roo Arcus – “Tumbleweed” – One of the best traditional country artists from Australia is back with his first record in five years, and man is the title track just about the perfect introduction to Roo if it’s your first time hearing him. Great songwriting, and a George Strait sound.
Brent Cobb ft. Nikki Lane – “Soapbox” – Brent Cobb and Nikki Lane join forces to tell you to quit with all the fuzz and friction and get along out there in this duet from Cobb’s latest record, Keep ‘Em On They Toes. All kinds of laid back vibes on this track.
David Adam Byrnes – “Beer Bucket List” – David Adam Byrnes is getting lots of positive buzz for his brand new record Neon Town, and “Beer Bucket List” is a great showcase of his traditional country sound mixed with sensible songwriting.

Sunny Sweeney’s new song is a gem! And I love the new album of David ADam Byrnes. I had on it repeat since its release. I’ll check out the three new songs. This playlist is always a great way to discover new artists.

Agree with you on David Adam Byrnes, i thought i had enough of 90’s sounding country but it wasn’t so true…

Where the heck you been hiding this Roo Arcus? (Yeah I know — Australia) First time hearing him, and I think he sounds a lot like George Strait. Strait fans really need to give this guy a listen.

I featured him back in 2015. New record came as a surprise. Might have a review up soon.

On 2nd listen, I think I also hear a slight bit of a Gary Allan type edge in his vocal tone. Roo’s voice is an instant addiction for me. Will definitely be getting my friends to check this guy out.

I read somewhere that Loretta Lynn has said country music is dead. If she was quoted correctly, she must be referring to the charts. The good stuff on the charts and there is some, is not much. Loretta needs to listen to your playlists, it shows country music is still very much alive and licking. There is some great country music out there.
I got a Roo Arcus album some years back and it is a great album. Emily Robinson makes me think a little of Emmylou Harris. The Sunny Sweeney track is also excellent. Some great music Keep up the good work with these excellent playlists.

I love Body In A Boxcar looking forward to the album a lot. Beer Bucket List is a great tune as is the album. Skid Row another song that makes my toes tap! Loving the album more and more each day. The rotation here at the JB- Chicago mansion is kind of weird these days coming into the fall. Albums like Daniel Donato, Zephaniah OHora, and T.J. Hernandez are in heavy rotation followed by a rash of EP’s I’ve just taken a liking to like Rylee Lum’s 5 songs that I just can’t stop playing….they’re just so good for a 13 yr.old. Riley Green, Desert City Ramblers, and I know I’ll probably lose my SCM membership card but the Travis Denning EP has been getting a few spins too. On the live music front around here……Mo Pitney rescheduled a November show as that region of our state’s cases were too high. Whitey Morgan will be up the street from me Sunday night for an intimate acoustic show at The Brauerhouse where he changed my life 4 or 5 years ago. Ward Davis and Alex Williams have small venue shows booked too.

Trig,
Please discuss this Luke Combs Billboard Awards performance…
What happened to Luke? Did he get a hip hop stylist?
He’s wearing a Gucci like suit, wearing a Rolex, and shaved his head. No red solo cup, no more hat. Wtf
