Newest Adds to Saving Country Music’s Top 25 Current Playlist (#87)
In the throes of summer is the best time to shake up your musical diet, discover something new, and crank it up loud. Lucky for you, the Top 25 Playlist is here to help facilitate this, and has just been provisioned with a brand new hosts of songs for your listening pleasure.
The Saving Country Music Top 25 Playlist is built to keep you informed on all the best songs and albums coming out right here, right now in country and roots music. It’s available on most all streaming formats (see below), or you can just use the song, artist, and album recommendations to find something new to listen to.
Newest Additions:
Sierra Ferrell – “In Dreams” – Is it August 20th yet? How about now? That’s when we’ll get the Rounder Records debut from Sierra called Long Time Coming, and it feels like we’ve been waiting forever for this much-anticipated album, and are bursting at the seams for it to get here. This song first featured on a now viral Gems on VHS videos is the perfect forum to showcase Sierra’s whimsical voice and style.
Drake Milligan – “Don’t Look Down” – Mr. Milligan who played Elvis in the highly-regarded television series Sun Records has many raving about him and making comparisons to a young George Strait with his new self-titled EP. Give this young man a listen, and keep an eye on him for the future.
Charley Crockett – “I Need Your Love” – Get ready for Charley Crockett’s new album Country Music U.S.A. coming on September 17th. “I Need Your Love” proves Charley can work in all kinds of classic music stylings and still make them sound so good and seamless to country.
Margo Cilker – “Tehachapi” – Not since Little Feat’s “Willin'” has the small town in interior California not too far from Bakersfield been named dropped so well. Eastern Oregon’s Margo Cilker is looking to release her debut album Pohorylle on Fluff & Gravy Records in November.
John R. Miller – “Old Dance Floor” – Miller’s spot on the playlist has been freshened after the recent release of his well-received album Depreciated. “Old Dance Floor” mixes his distinguishing and intense songwriting with an enjoyable composition.
Tylor and the Train Robbers – “Staring Down the North” – The new album from Tylor and the Train Robbers produced by Cody Braun of Reckless Kelly called Non-Typical Find is a profoundly literary, involved, erudite and wise work, stimulative of the gray matter while not losing sight that music is there to be enjoyed. Using sound and melody to deliver universal truths, poetic flourishes, riveting storylines, and quippy anecdotes is frontman and songwriter Tylor Ketchum’s stock-in-trade.

For the record, the songs are not in an order like a chart. So #25 is not the 25th best song. It’s just where it is in order, determined mostly of the flow of the listening experience.

Hadn’t heard of Margo Cilker before now – great stuff. Glad to see Eastern Oregon on the map. My grandfather had a ranch out there. It’s as country as any place in the US.
