Newest Adds to Saving Country Music’s Top 25 Current Playlist (#88)

Not all playlist updates are built the same. Sometimes you’re hunting and pecking for new songs that are worthy to add, and sometimes you can wait to share a stacked draft class of some of the finest country music you can find in the modern era. This particular update is the latter kind.

The Saving Country Music Top 25 Playlist is built to keep you informed on all the best songs and albums coming out right here, right now in country and roots music. It’s available on most all streaming formats (see below), or you can just use the song, artist, and album recommendations to find something new to listen to.

Newest Additions:

Garrett T. Capps – “I Like Austin, But I Love San Antone” – Garrett has long been a booster and proponent for country music in San Antonio, and now he’s putting it to music in this rousing title track to his new album out August 20th. This is a fun one.

Emily Scott Robinson – “Cheap Seats” – Now signed to John Prine’s Oh Boy Records and readying the release of her album American Siren on October 29th, Emily Scott Robinson tells a relevant story of going from a waitress aspiring to take the stage, to an artist standing in the spotlight. And though much of Emily’s music is fair to call more Americana than country, the roots kick in with this one.

Mike and the Moonpies – “Growing Pains” – The new album One To Grow On from Mike and the Moonpies is so damn good, it occupies two spots in the playlist, with this song that shows of the band’s compositional skills mixed with sheer infectiousness illustrating how they both adhere to the roots of the music while spiriting them forward.

Elijah Ocean – “Thirty-Five” – Elijah has a new album out called Born Blue with a bunch of well-written classic country songs, and though it’s hard to pick which one’s best, this ode to not acting your age seems to fit the bill.

Carly Pearce w/ Patty Loveless – “Dear Miss Loretta” – Carly Pierce continues to double down on a new era in her career where she’s unabashedly digs into her traditional country roots, this time with help from Patty Loveless while paying tribute to Loretta Lynn.

Jesse Daniel – “Gray” – Drawing from the wisdom of his own experiences, Jesse Daniel proves that he’s not just an entertainer, but an artist with the gut-punching “Gray” about that guy we all know that never gave up his rowdy ways. This gives Jesse two songs in the playlist, and perhaps a Song of the Year contender down the road.

Bri Bagwell – “Heroes” – Texas country artist Bri Bagwell offers up this song that is part homage to country music greats, part love story of how the reverence for country music can bring together kindred spirits.
