Newest Adds to Saving Country Music’s Top 25 Current Playlist (#89)

As you get together with friends, family, and co-workers for the Labor Day holiday, it’s the perfect excuse to aggressively ambush them about their bad choices when it comes to country music. Instruct them to ditch the Dan + Shay, and detox with this playlist that has just been freshly provisioned for long-weekend listening.

The Saving Country Music Top 25 Playlist is built to keep you informed on all the best songs and albums coming out right here, right now in country and roots music. It’s available on most all streaming formats (see below), or you can just use the song, artist, and album recommendations to find something new to listen to.

Newest Additions:

Randy Travis – “Ain’t No Use” – A never-before-heard studio track from the original Randy Travis Storms of Life sessions? it’s compulsory it should end up on the playlist. Written by Randy Travis with John Lindley, it’s one of three unheard tracks to be released on the Storms of Life 35th Anniversary Edition available September 24th. Long-time Randy Travis fans will recognize this song as the lead track off of Randy’s 1982 live album from The Nashville Palace when he was still washing dishes in the place and going by the name of Randy Ray. This studio version is a much more polished version of the song.

Noel McKay – “The 50 Loneliest Places in the Nation” – That’s right, Noel McKay is much more than just a Christmas baby and Mr. Brennen Leigh, and he proves it with this track that would make Roger Miller jealous he didn’t write it. “The 50 Loneliest Places in the Nation” is the opening track from Noel’s new album Blue, Blue, Blue out October 8th.

Erin Enderlin – “If I’m Not In Hell” – Erin Enderlin never lets you down when you’re looking for country music that cuts to the bone and barrels you over with gut punches. “If I’m Not In Hell” is more of the same, if she doesn’t dial up the potency even more.

Caleb Lee Hutchinson – “Slot Machine Syndrome” – Boy, speaking of country music heartbreakers, Caleb Lee Hutchinson has a hell of a one here as the title songs from his upcoming EP out on September 17th. His voice is perfect for this song.

Johnny Berry and the Outliers – “Aggie Loved Milton” – This wild and crazy funky country rug cutter from a guy that sounds kind of like Dale Watson will have you standing up and gettin’ down, not to mention there’s an involved story to the song as well. One of two new singles this outfit has out after a decade-long hiatus, it will make you hungry for more.

Jon Wolfe – “Anybody Playin’ Sad Songs” – Well yeah, Jon. Here at Saving Country Music, it’s all about taking the saddest of songs, and shining a spotlight on them. “Anybody Plain’ Sad Songs” from Jon Wolfe’s epic, 17-song country and Western album Dos Corazones is as good as any of them.

James McMurtry – “Ft. Walton Wake-Up Call” – James McMurtry has his slot on the playlist freshened with this unusually catchy and rhythmic track about continuously losing his glasses that’s one of the many heaters on McMurtry’s amazing new album The Horses and the Hounds.
